# How to Evolve Eevee in Scarlet and Violet: Every Form, Step by Step

In Scarlet and Violet, five of Eevee's evolutions need a stone, and three need friendship. Use a Water, Thunder, Fire, Leaf or Ice Stone for [Vaporeon](https://pokee.si/pokemon/vaporeon), [Jolteon](https://pokee.si/pokemon/jolteon), [Flareon](https://pokee.si/pokemon/flareon), [Leafeon](https://pokee.si/pokemon/leafeon) or [Glaceon](https://pokee.si/pokemon/glaceon). Raise [Eevee](https://pokee.si/pokemon/eevee)'s friendship for [Espeon](https://pokee.si/pokemon/espeon), [Umbreon](https://pokee.si/pokemon/umbreon) or [Sylveon](https://pokee.si/pokemon/sylveon).

Fans call these eight Pokémon Eeveelutions. That is a fan name. This page covers only Scarlet and Violet. For other games and Pokémon GO, read [Eevee evolutions](https://pokee.si/articles/eevee-evolutions). The numbers here come from the pokee.si Pokédex and from Bulbapedia.

## Step 1: Find an Eevee

Eevee is wild in three places in Paldea: South Province (Area Two), South Province (Area Five) and West Province (Area Three). It also shows up in 3★ and 5★ Tera Raid Battles. In The Indigo Disk expansion, you can trade for one with Penny in the League Club Room.

Eevee's base friendship is 50 in Scarlet and Violet, so a fresh one needs work before it likes you enough for Espeon, Umbreon or Sylveon.

## Step 2: Pick a form

| [Umbreon](https://pokee.si/pokemon/umbreon) | [Dark](https://pokee.si/types/dark) | Level up with high friendship during the night |

Evolving is when a Pokémon changes into a new one. A level-up means winning enough experience to go up one level. For the basics, see [how Pokémon evolution works](https://pokee.si/articles/how-does-pokemon-evolution-work) or the [evolution lesson](https://pokee.si/lessons/how-evolution-works).

## The stone forms

A stone works as soon as you use it on Eevee. No level-up is needed.

- Fire, Water, Thunder and Leaf Stones are sold at every Delibird Presents shop for 3,000 Pokédollars each, once you have 3 Gym Badges.
- Each stone can also be found in the wild. Water Stones turn up in Cascarrafa, Area Zero and South Province (Area Four). Thunder Stones turn up in Levincia, Casseroya Lake and West Province (Area One). Fire Stones turn up in Area Zero and East Province (Areas Two and Three).
- Leaf Stones turn up in Tagtree Thicket, and a Sunflora hide-and-seek reward in Artazon gives one too.
- The Ice Stone is not sold in Scarlet and Violet. Find one on Glaseado Mountain or in Dalizapa Passage. In The Indigo Disk, the Polar Biome has one too.

Older games used a Moss Rock for Leafeon and an Ice Rock for Glaceon. Scarlet and Violet have neither, so Leafeon and Glaceon need the stones.

## The friendship forms

Friendship is how much a Pokémon likes you. Since Generation 8, Eevee needs a friendship of 160 or more to evolve this way.

In Scarlet and Violet, most actions only raise friendship up to 160. To go higher, you need friendship-raising Berries or picnic activities. You do not need to go higher to evolve. These actions raise friendship in Bulbapedia's table:

- Levelling up (it adds 3 at friendship 0 to 99 and 2 at 100 to 159)
- Walking 128 steps with the Pokémon in your party (a 50% chance each time)
- Using a vitamin, a battle item or an item that raises EVs (a Pokémon's hidden training points)
- Using a friendship-raising Berry

Fainting lowers friendship. So does using Energy Powder, Heal Powder, Energy Root or Revival Herb. A Soothe Bell costs 5,000 Pokédollars at Delibird Presents and is an item that helps with friendship.

Once Eevee has 160 or more, level it up:

1. For Espeon, level it up during the day.
2. For Umbreon, level it up at night.
3. For Sylveon, level it up while it knows a Fairy-type move. The time of day does not matter.

## Sylveon needs a Fairy move

Eevee learns [Baby-Doll Eyes](https://pokee.si/moves/baby-doll-eyes) at level 15 and [Charm](https://pokee.si/moves/charm) at level 45. Charm is also TM002, and [Alluring Voice](https://pokee.si/moves/alluring-voice) is TM227. All of these are Fairy-type moves.

Check Eevee's moves before the level-up. If it has high friendship and knows a Fairy move, it becomes Sylveon, not Espeon or Umbreon. That is the order when several rules apply: Leafeon and Glaceon come first, then Sylveon, then Espeon and Umbreon.

## How the eight compare

Each form has a base stat total of 525, with one stat at 130. Vaporeon has HP 130 and Jolteon has Speed 130. Flareon has Attack 130, Espeon has Sp. Atk 130, Umbreon has Sp. Def 130, Leafeon has Defense 130, Glaceon has Sp. Atk 130 and Sylveon has Sp. Def 130. Pick by looks or type, because none of them is stronger in total.

## Where to go next

Not sure how to say Vaporeon or Glaceon? The [pronunciation guide](https://pokee.si/pronounce) has them. For other games, the name tricks in Pokémon GO and the older rocks, open [Eevee evolutions](https://pokee.si/articles/eevee-evolutions).
