Water Bubble Pokémon · Water/Bug-type

![Araquanid official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/752.webp)

Araquanid is a [Water](https://pokee.si/types/water)/[Bug](https://pokee.si/types/bug)-type Pokémon, the Water Bubble Pokémon, number 752 (#0752) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 7 and comes from the [Alola](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/alola) region. It is 1.8 m tall and weighs 82 kg.

Araquanid is the Water Bubble Pokémon, a gentle-minded spider that carries its young inside the water bubble on its head. The same bubble is a weapon, and the Pokédex is blunt about what happens to small Pokémon sucked into it.

## How to pronounce Araquanid

Araquanid is pronounced **uh-RAK-wuh-nid**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Araquanid is a dark grey spider, 1.8 m tall and 82 kg, with large blue eyes, three blue bumps on its head and six light green legs with a bubble around each joint. A large water bubble envelops its head. The Pokédex says it launches sticky bubbles and headbutts with the bubble, and that foes caught inside lose consciousness before Araquanid's jaws finish them.

### Behaviour

Despite its look, the Pokédex calls Araquanid caring. It carries Dewpider around inside the bubble, feeds them leftovers, and brings vulnerable Pokémon inside to protect them. It also stores subdued prey and things it values in the bubble, and Ultra Moon warns that it will try to tuck its Trainer's belongings in there too.

### Habitat

The Pokédex says it spends its time in the water. In Scarlet and Violet it is not wild in the base game but lives in The Indigo Disk's Coastal Biome and Torchlit Labyrinth.

### Powers

Its Ability is Water Bubble, which halves the power of Fire moves against it, doubles its own Water moves and prevents burns, with Water Absorb hidden. It fights with Liquidation, Leech Life and Lunge, and protects with Wide Guard and Mirror Coat. Special Defense of 132 and Defense of 92 make it a sturdy tank.

### Name origin

Araquanid may combine 'arachnid' and 'aqua'. The Japanese name is Onishizukumo (オニシズクモ), which may combine onigumo (a type of spider), oni ('demon') and Shizukumo, Dewpider's name.

### Design inspiration

Araquanid appears to follow Dewpider in drawing on the diving bell spider. Its long, skinny legs may also take some influence from sea spiders, and the growths on its head may echo Theridion grallator, the Hawaiian happy-face spider. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Araquanid evolves from Dewpider at level 22.

### In the games

A Totem Araquanid guards Lana's trial in Brooklet Hill in Sun and Moon and rewards you with a Waterium Z. Araquanid is found in Sword and Shield and in Scarlet and Violet's The Indigo Disk, but is not available in Legends: Z-A.

### In the anime

An Araquanid debuted in 'Dewpider Ascending!', teaching its grown Dewpider to survive before they leave the nest. Another competed in the Manalo Conference preliminary in 'Battle Royal 151!' and lost to Ash's Pikachu.

### Fun facts

- Besides Dewpider and Araquanid, no known Pokémon can have the Ability Water Bubble.
- In Ultra Moon, Samson Oak at Heahea Beach hands over a Totem-sized Araquanid, 3.1 m tall, to players with 40 Totem Stickers.
- In Pokémon Adventures, Araquanid debuted in 'Homecoming and the Brilliant Professional Golfer', owned by Lana.
