## Lore

### Biology

Bewear stands 2.1 m tall and weighs 135 kg. It is a bipedal bear with black legs and chest, a pink head, back and tail, and a white band across its head with a tuft at each end that looks like a headband with bear ears. The Pokédex says a martial artist would envy the moves it uses on prey, and Bulbapedia notes it is surprisingly fast for its size.

### Behaviour

Waving its arms about is a warning, not a greeting. Once it accepts someone as a friend it hugs them, and Bulbapedia says Trainers must teach it to hold back. Prey that it has subdued gets carried to the nest under its arms. According to Bulbapedia it rarely hugs a log in its sleep, mistaking it for a friend, and smashes the log by accident.

### Habitat

The Pokédex says its habitat is generally off limits. In Sun and Moon it is found at the Poni Gauntlet, and in Sword and Shield around the Wild Area.

### Diet

Bulbapedia says it likes Honey made by Combee, and Berries.

### Powers

Its Ability Fluffy halves damage from contact moves but doubles damage from Fire moves, Klutz stops it using held items, and its hidden Ability Unnerve stops opponents eating Berries. Hammer Arm, Thrash, Double-Edge and Superpower make up its punishing physical moveset. With 120 HP and 125 Attack it is a bulky, hard-hitting attacker.

### Name origin

Bewear may blend beware, wear and bear. The Japanese name is Kiteruguma (キテルグマ), which may combine kiteru (wearing), kigurumi (mascot costume) and kuma (bear).

### Design inspiration

Bewear looks modelled on a red panda and a stuffed bear, and also recalls a mascot costume. It may also draw on wrestling bears and the bear hug, a hold used in pro wrestling.

### Evolution notes

Evolves from Stufful at level 27.

### In the games

A Bewear known as Master Bewear battles alongside the Black Belt Alvaro in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, though Alvaro insists he is only its apprentice. Bewear debuted in Sun and Moon and returned in Sword and Shield, but it is not available in Scarlet and Violet or Legends: Z-A.

### In the anime

A female Bewear on Melemele Island debuted in 'Alola to New Adventure!' and took Team Rocket in to live at her den until the Sun and Moon series ended. In 'Don't Ignore the Small Stufful!' she found her child again, a Stufful.

### Fun facts

- Alvaro says Master Bewear once fought the kahuna Hala in a battle that lasted a week.
- In the anime Bewear is shown running across the ocean and building a wooden motorcycle.
- In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Bewear is a Poké Ball summon that attacks with an upright Brutal Swing.
