# Bisharp

Sword Blade Pokémon · Dark/Steel-type

![Bisharp official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/625.webp)

Bisharp is a [Dark](https://pokee.si/types/dark)/[Steel](https://pokee.si/types/steel)-type Pokémon, the Sword Blade Pokémon, number 625 (#0625) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 5 and comes from the [Unova](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/unova) region. It is 1.6 m tall and weighs 70 kg.

Bisharp is the Sword Blade Pokémon, a pitiless pack boss that leads Pawniard into battle. Its rule hangs on one blade: the Pokédex says a Bisharp whose head blade gets chipped gives up its place as boss.

## How to pronounce Bisharp

Bisharp is pronounced **BY-sharp**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

In Japanese it is キリキザン (Kirikizan).

## Lore

### Biology

Bisharp is 1.6 m tall and 70 kg. It has a red and black war-helmet head crowned with a golden blade shaped like a double-headed axe, red shoulder pads, white metal hands with retractable blades, and blades around its torso that look like a ribcage.

### Behaviour

A Bisharp leads a large group of Pawniard and watches them closely for any sign of betrayal. The Pokédex says it keeps a blank face when it delivers the finishing blow, and that a pack beaten in a territory dispute is taken over by the winners. Rival Bisharp fight to become boss, and the loser is driven out.

### Habitat

Bulbapedia says it typically lives near forested areas. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in North Province (Area Two), in Area Zero and, with The Teal Mask, in Timeless Woods.

### Powers

Defiant sharply raises its Attack whenever an opponent lowers one of its stats, Inner Focus stops flinching, and Pressure is the Hidden Ability. It uses Metal Burst, Night Slash, Iron Head and Swords Dance, backed by base Attack 125 and Defense 100.

### Name origin

Bisharp may combine the chess bishop with 'sharp', and also puns on B sharp, the musical note. The Japanese name is Kirikizan (キリキザン), which may mix kirikizamu, 'to mince', and zan, 'slash'.

### Design inspiration

Bulbapedia says Bisharp resembles a Japanese bandit boss and a soldier in samurai-style armour. If Pawniard is a pawn, Bisharp may be a bishop, mirroring how a chess pawn can be promoted when it reaches the far side of the board. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Bisharp evolves from Pawniard at level 52. It becomes Kingambit when it levels up after defeating three leader Bisharp, the ones holding a Leader's Crest, with the player's Bisharp landing each finishing blow.

### In the games

Bisharp's biggest role came in Scarlet and Violet, where packs of Pawniard led by a Leader's Crest Bisharp roam Paldea and defeating them is the route to Kingambit. It first appeared in Black and White. Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.

### In the anime

Georgia's Bisharp debuted in 'Search for the Clubultimate!' and 'A Clubsplosion of Excitement!'. In 'Finals Not for the Faint-Hearted!', Alain's Bisharp knocked out Ash's Hawlucha and Goodra, then fell to his Greninja.

### Fun facts

- Its base Attack of 125 is the highest of any Dark type introduced in Generation V.
- The official Scarlet and Violet Trainer's Guide says your Bisharp must hold a Leader's Crest to become Kingambit, but Bulbapedia notes the player's Bisharp never needs to hold one.
- Taking the Leader's Crest off a leader Bisharp before beating it means the win does not count, but giving the crest to it with a move such as Switcheroo before the knockout does.
