It was introduced in Generation 3 and comes from the [Hoenn](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/hoenn) region. It is 1.9 m tall and weighs 220 kg.

Camerupt is the Eruption Pokémon, a two-humped Fire and Ground camel with a pair of volcanoes on its back. The Pokédex says they erupt violently every 10 years, or sooner if it gets really angry.

## Lore

### Biology

Camerupt is a stout, four-legged Pokémon, 1.9 m tall and 220 kg, resembling a Bactrian camel with two grey volcanoes in place of humps. It has shaggy red-orange fur, three blue ring markings on each side, bangs, droopy ears and a tan muzzle. The Pokédex says magma of 10,000°C (18,000°F) courses through its body, and that its humps are formed from transformed bones.

### Behaviour

The Pokédex says Camerupt shudders as magma builds up inside it, and the Sapphire entry says it seems to erupt often when it is angry. The Emerald entry adds that researchers are still working out what causes the 10-year eruption.

### Habitat

The Pokédex habitat list puts it in the mountains, and entries say it lives in volcano craters. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in North Province (Area Two), Area Zero and 5-star Tera Raids, and The Indigo Disk adds Coastal Biome, Polar Biome and Torchlit Labyrinth. In Legends: Z-A it is in Jaune District's Wild Zone 8, and the Mega Dimension DLC adds Hyperspace Lumiose.

### Powers

Its Abilities are Magma Armor, which prevents freezing, and Solid Rock, which weakens super-effective hits, with Anger Point hidden. It uses Eruption, Lava Plume, Flamethrower, Earth Power and Rock Slide. Holding Cameruptite it can Mega Evolve into Mega Camerupt, which debuted in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, standing 2.5 m tall and weighing 320.5 kg, with the Ability Sheer Force and 145 base Special Attack. Its humps merge into one huge, constantly erupting volcano, its fur turns scarlet and swells until only its hooves show, and a grey M marks its face. Mega Camerupt has a deep hatred of water, and its base Speed is only 20.

### Name origin

Camerupt may combine 'camel' and 'erupt'. The Japanese name is Bakuuda (バクーダ), which may blend bakuhatsu, 'eruption', and rakuda, 'camel', and may involve 'Bactrian camel'.

### Design inspiration

Camerupt resembles a Bactrian camel with volcanoes for humps, though its proportions are closer to cattle, muskoxen or yaks. Its blue rings may echo a carnival target game, a hint the anime plays on in 'Historical Mystery Tour!'. Mega Camerupt looks more like a dromedary, and its M may stand for Team Magma. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Camerupt evolves from Numel at level 33.

### In the games

Team Magma's leader Maxie uses a Camerupt in Ruby, Emerald and Omega Ruby, where it Mega Evolves. The species debuted in Ruby and Sapphire.

### In the anime

Vicky Winstrate's Camerupt debuted in 'Candid Camerupt!', going on a rampage after Ash's Pikachu hit it on the nose with Iron Tail. In 'Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel', the Mega Wave takes over a Camerupt that can Mega Evolve.

### Fun facts

- Bulbapedia notes that Camerupt stands alone: every other Pokémon with Solid Rock is part Rock.
- Camerupt is not in Sword and Shield, but Bulbapedia notes it can Dynamax in Pokémon Masters EX.
- In the Pokémon Generations episode 'The Vision', Courtney sends out a Camerupt against Brendan's Sceptile.
