![Ceruledge official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/937.webp)

Ceruledge is a [Fire](https://pokee.si/types/fire)/[Ghost](https://pokee.si/types/ghost)-type Pokémon, the Fire Blades Pokémon, number 937 (#0937) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 9 and comes from the [Paldea](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/paldea) region. It is 1.6 m tall and weighs 62 kg.

Ceruledge is the Fire Blades Pokémon, a Fire and Ghost type whose arms are blades of fire, fuelled by the bitterness of a swordsman who fell short of his goal. It is fiercely loyal and will cut down anyone who threatens its Trainer.

## How to pronounce Ceruledge

Ceruledge is pronounced **suh-ROO-lej**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Ceruledge is a humanoid Pokémon, 1.6 m (5'03") tall and 62 kg (136.7 lbs), mostly black with dark blue patches. Pale blue spikes stick out from the sides of its head like ears, a blue and purple fire burns from the back of its head like a helmet plume, and a plate with three pink dents covers its face. Instead of hands it has purple-cyan blades made of fire and spectral energy, which Bulbapedia says can grow into great swords in battle.

### Behaviour

Ceruledge swears loyalty to its Trainer, and the Legends: Z-A Pokédex says it will cut down without a second thought anyone who shows its Trainer hostility. Bulbapedia describes it as merciless in a fight, preferring close-quarters attacks that use its speed to find a foe's blind spots.

### Habitat

Neither the Pokédex nor Bulbapedia gives a habitat. In Scarlet and Violet you can get one by evolving Charcadet, and it appears in 5-star and 6-star Tera Raid Battles.

### Powers

Ceruledge's blades power Bitter Blade, a Fire move that restores some of the damage it deals. It also learns Shadow Claw when it evolves, then Swords Dance, Psycho Cut and Flare Blitz. Its Abilities are Flash Fire and Weak Armor (hidden). Its base Attack of 125 is the highest of any Fire or Ghost type introduced in Generation IX, and with Speed 85 it is a fast, hard-hitting physical attacker.

### Name origin

Ceruledge may combine cerulean (a dark blue), cruel and edge. The Japanese name is Soublades (ソウブレイズ), which may combine sō (azure) or soul with blades, and perhaps blaze or reisu (wraith).

### Design inspiration

Ceruledge may be modelled on a possessed suit of armour. Bulbapedia suggests the Spanish poem El Cantar de mio Cid, about the knight El Cid, who wielded the swords Tizona and Colada and, in legend, won his greatest battle after he had died, which could explain the Ghost typing. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Charcadet evolves into Ceruledge when a Malicious Armor is used on it, which uses the armour up.

### In the games

Ceruledge is Charcadet's other evolution, introduced in Scarlet and Violet. In Legends: Z-A it comes from evolving Charcadet in the Mega Dimension DLC.

### In the anime

Amethio's Ceruledge debuted in 'The Pendant That Starts It All (Part One)'. It made its first Terastallization, into the Ghost type, in 'From So Far Away'.

### Fun facts

- It can learn the Grass-type Solar Blade, by TM and as an Egg Move, which is odd for a Fire and Ghost type.
- In the Horizons episode 'Liko and Amethio', its blades are shown giving off heat even when retracted.
- Bulbapedia says no other species is known to learn Bitter Blade.
