# Chandelure

Luring Pokémon · Ghost/Fire-type

![Chandelure official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/609.webp)

Chandelure is a [Ghost](https://pokee.si/types/ghost)/[Fire](https://pokee.si/types/fire)-type Pokémon, the Luring Pokémon, number 609 (#0609) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 5 and comes from the [Unova](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/unova) region. It is 1 m tall and weighs 34.3 kg.

Chandelure is the Luring Pokémon, a living chandelier whose flames, the Pokédex says, burn the spirit and leave the body behind. The spirits it burns lose their way and wander the world forever.

## How to pronounce Chandelure

Chandelure is pronounced **shan-duh-LOOR**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Chandelure is 1.0 m tall and weighs 34.3 kg. It looks like a sentient chandelier, with a striped, round head, round yellow eyes without pupils, and a ring of small black spikes holding a tall purple flame. Two curled black arms with smaller arms branching off are tipped with purple fire.

### Behaviour

The Sword Pokédex says Chandelure sways its arms to hypnotise opponents with the ominous dance of its flames. A Shield entry claims that homes lit by Chandelure instead of lamps saw constant funerals, though only as a rumour.

### Habitat

Bulbapedia says Chandelure lives in rundown mansions. In Scarlet and Violet's base game it can only come from Pokémon HOME or a trade, but The Teal Mask offers it through evolution and in 5-star and 6-star Tera Raids.

### Powers

Chandelure has the Abilities Flash Fire and Flame Body, with Infiltrator hidden. It burns foes with Inferno, Overheat and Fire Spin, and casts Shadow Ball, Hex and Will-O-Wisp. With base Special Attack 145 but only 60 HP, it is a glass cannon. Mega Chandelure, introduced in Legends: Z-A, is a two-tiered chandelier of 2.5 m and 69.6 kg with the Ability Infiltrator and base Special Attack 175; one of its eyes turns purple, a window to the afterlife, and it spins like a chandelier before attacking.

### Name origin

Chandelure may combine 'chandelier' and 'lure'. The Japanese name is Chandela (シャンデラ), which may combine 'chandelier' with candela, Latin for 'candle', or with 'candelabra'.

### Design inspiration

Chandelure seems to pair an elaborate chandelier with the folklore of wandering spirit-flames. Its haunting of old mansions may nod to the luxury chandeliers of European castles and palaces, and its loosely skull-like face and curled black arms recall wrought-iron Gothic fixtures. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Chandelure evolves from Lampent if a Dusk Stone is used on it, and is the final form of the Litwick line.

### In the games

In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, Chandelure runs Wish Park's Dance Zone and its Dance Inferno attraction. It first appeared in Black and White as an evolution of Lampent. In Legends: Z-A it is found in Centrico Plaza's Wild Zone 20, where Bulbapedia marks it as an Alpha, and the Mega Dimension DLC adds it to Hyperspace Lumiose.

### In the anime

Chandelure debuted in 'Battle for the Underground!' as Ingo's Pokémon, helping Ash and his friends rescue their Pokémon from Team Rocket, and later joined a Tag Battle with Emmet's Eelektross in 'Lost at the Stamp Rally!'.

### Fun facts

- In The Pokémon Company's 2020 Pokémon of the Year poll, Chandelure was the most popular Generation V Pokémon with 50,943 votes, eighteenth overall.
- Mega Chandelure's base Special Attack of 175 ties with Mega Alakazam for the highest of any non-Legendary Pokémon.
- Chandelure enemies in Smash Run, a mode of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, power up on fire and darkness attacks, though the Pokémon itself is weak to Dark.
- Chandelure appears in the music video for 'Ghost Dive' by Polkadot Stingray.
