Rogue Pokémon · Water/Dark-type

![Crawdaunt official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/342.webp)

Crawdaunt is a [Water](https://pokee.si/types/water)/[Dark](https://pokee.si/types/dark)-type Pokémon, the Rogue Pokémon, number 342 (#0342) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 3 and comes from the [Hoenn](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/hoenn) region. It is 1.1 m tall and weighs 32.8 kg.

Crawdaunt is the Rogue Pokémon, a lobster-like brawler that picks fights until no other Pokémon will share its pond. The Pokédex says it turns timid the moment its pincers break off.

## How to pronounce Crawdaunt

Crawdaunt is pronounced **KRAW-dawnt**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Crawdaunt is a red crustacean with a tan underside, 1.1 m tall and 32.8 kg, with a star-shaped growth on its forehead and large, spike-edged pincers. It has two sets of hind limbs and a lobster-like tail marked with a yellow triangle. The Pokédex says it molts its shell regularly, and just after molting the shell is soft, so it hides in its streambed burrow until it hardens.

### Behaviour

Crawdaunt loves to battle and has a violent streak. The Ruby entry says other creatures refuse to live in ponds it inhabits, leaving them desolate, and other entries say it pinches intruders and throws them out. A veteran's pincers are covered in scars. When the pincers drop off it turns cowardly until they grow back, and the dropped meat smells and tastes foul, unlike the claw meat of Crabrawler or Clauncher.

### Habitat

The Pokédex lists the water's edge, and mentions ponds and streambeds. In Scarlet and Violet it is wild only in The Teal Mask, at Fellhorn Gorge; elsewhere it arrives by trade or transfer.

### Powers

It keeps Corphish's Abilities, Hyper Cutter and Shell Armor, with Adaptability hidden. It hits with Crabhammer, Knock Off, Night Slash and Crunch, and Swords Dance powers it up. With 120 base Attack and 85 Defense it hits hard and takes hits, but its Speed is a slow 55.

### Name origin

Crawdaunt may blend 'crawdad' or 'crawfish' with 'daunt' or 'taunt'. The Japanese name is Shizariger (シザリガー), which may combine シザー (shizā, scissors) with 蝲蛄 (zarigani, crayfish).

### Design inspiration

Crawdaunt's name and build suggest a red swamp crayfish, but its size is closer to a lobster's. Bulbapedia notes its star and stripes may be a military motif like rank insignia, and its shell resembles an open shark mouth, which could be a Sharpedo-style bluff. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Evolves from Corphish at level 30, gaining the Dark type.

### In the games

Crawdaunt first appeared in Ruby and Sapphire, and in The Teal Mask it appears in 4 and 6 star Tera Raid Battles. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.

### In the anime

Crawdaunt debuted in 'Stairway to Devon', commanded by Team Aqua Grunts. In 'A Fiery Training Camp Trick!', Kiawe revealed that he had asked a Crawdaunt he once battled to help Sophocles master a Z-Move.

### Fun facts

- No other Pokémon shares Crawdaunt's catch rate of 155.
- Bulbapedia says Corphish and Crawdaunt are the only known Pokémon that do not flee when a swarm of Basculin appears in their lake.
- Bulbapedia suggests its ability to learn Dragon Dance may come from the Chinese word for lobster, which literally means 'dragon shrimp'.
