Drampa is a [Normal](https://pokee.si/types/normal)/[Dragon](https://pokee.si/types/dragon)-type Pokémon, the Placid Pokémon, number 780 (#0780) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 7 and comes from the [Alola](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/alola) region. It is 3 m tall and weighs 185 kg.

Drampa is the Placid Pokémon, a gentle, grandfatherly dragon that loves playing with children and will protect them from anything. The Pokédex says that if a child it has befriended is bullied, it burns the bully's house down.

## Lore

### Biology

Drampa is a serpentine Normal and Dragon type, 3 m tall and weighing 185 kg, similar to a Chinese dragon. It has bluish-green skin, floppy ears, a white moustache and beard, and a mop of white hair, with fluffy white fur that covers the lower half of its body. It can fly, as the anime and New Pokémon Snap show.

### Behaviour

Drampa is kind and loves chatting with people and Pokémon, especially children. It turns up wherever they gather, such as schools and parks, and mothers never worry about it playing with them. In Pokémon Sleep it dozes with its head resting on its back, and the entry suggests it may be dreaming of protecting tired children.

### Habitat

The Sword Pokédex places its home in mountains about 3 km (nearly 2 miles) high, from which it rarely comes down to play with the children below. Bulbapedia instead says it lives alone and descends daily at dawn, because the Berries it eats do not grow so high. It is unobtainable in Scarlet and Violet.

### Diet

It eats Berries, and the anime says tree Berries are its favourite.

### Powers

Its Abilities are Berserk, which raises Special Attack when its HP drops below half, and Sap Sipper, which absorbs Grass moves; Cloud Nine is hidden. Bulbapedia says its angry Dragon Breath can flatten buildings. With base Special Attack 135 and Speed 36 it is a slow but powerful special attacker. Holding Drampanite, it can Mega Evolve into Mega Drampa, which regains its youth, turns dark grey and spiky, and summons storms. Bulbapedia says Mega Drampa's base Special Attack of 160 is the highest of any Normal Pokémon.

### Name origin

Drampa may combine 'dragon' and 'grampa', a variant of grandpa. The Japanese name is Jijilong (ジジーロン), which may combine jijii ('old man') and long, the Chinese word for dragon.

### Design inspiration

Hitoshi Ariga designed Drampa and Mega Drampa. Bulbapedia suggests the Zhulong, a mythical torch dragon with an old man's face, and Chinese dragons' kindly reputation and link to clouds, which its white fur may echo.

### In the games

Drampa lives on Mount Lanakila in Sun and Moon, where it debuted. In Legends: Z-A it roams Wild Zones 19 and 20 of Lumiose City, and the Mega Dimension DLC adds it to the 4 star Normal-type and Dragon-type wild zones of Hyperspace Lumiose.

### In the anime

A Drampa nicknamed Grandpa Forest debuted in 'Tasting the Bitter with the Sweet!', having once rescued young Lana and Mallow after a fall from a cliff. Another had its Berries stolen by a Gengar in 'Why Not Give Me a Z-Ring Sometime?'

### Fun facts

- Bulbapedia calls Drampa a counterpart to Turtonator: each has a base stat total of 485 and Dragon as its second type, and Drampa is a Moon exclusive while Turtonator is a Sun exclusive.
- Before Generation VIII, Drampa was the sole known holder of the Ability Berserk.
- Before the Mega Dimension DLC, Drampa was the only Generation VII Pokémon able to Mega Evolve.
