Drifblim is a [Ghost](https://pokee.si/types/ghost)/[Flying](https://pokee.si/types/flying)-type Pokémon, the Blimp Pokémon, number 426 (#0426) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 4 and comes from the [Sinnoh](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/sinnoh) region. It is 1.2 m tall and weighs 15 kg.

Drifblim is the Blimp Pokémon, a large purple balloon of souls that, the Pokédex says, drifts silently at dusk and carries people and Pokémon off to places nobody knows. Some people have written songs and poems about its melancholy air.

## How to pronounce Drifblim

## Lore

### Biology

Drifblim is 1.2 m tall and weighs 15 kg, a large purple body with a puffy white cloud on top, a big yellow X and four long, yellow-tipped arms. The Pokédex says souls are what fuels the gas inside it, and some say they are burdened with regrets; it can generate and release that gas to control its height.

### Behaviour

Drifblim is gentle and strong enough to lift people and Pokémon, but it only drifts, so the wind carries it wherever it goes. It is drowsy by day and flies off in big groups in the evening, and the Pokédex says the flocks vanish from view even under careful observation.

### Habitat

The Pokédex gives no habitat but places the flocks in the sky at dusk. In Scarlet it is found in places such as Alfornada Cavern, Cortondo and Glaseado Mountain, while Violet players must trade for it.

### Powers

Aftermath damages an attacker that knocks it out with a contact move, Unburden doubles Speed once a held item is used, and Flare Boost is hidden. It knows Phantom Force the moment it evolves and learns Hex, Shadow Ball, Tailwind and Baton Pass. Its Ghost and Flying typing makes it immune to Normal, Fighting and Ground moves. Base Special Attack is 90.

### Name origin

Drifblim combines 'drift' and 'blimp'. The Japanese name is Fuwaride (フワライド), which may combine fuwari (floating gently), 'ride' and a pun on fuwaraidō (following blindly).

### Design inspiration

Drifblim looks like a hot air balloon, with its four arms like rigging, and its English name brings to mind a blimp. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Drifblim evolves from Drifloon at level 28 and does not evolve further.

### In the games

Drifblim is the first Pokémon that Hearthome City Gym Leader Fantina sends out in Diamond and Pearl, at level 32, and those games are where it first appeared. It cannot be obtained in Legends: Z-A.

### In the anime

Fantina's Drifblim debuted in 'Playing The Leveling Field!', evolving from Drifloon in the middle of a battle with Ash's Pikachu. In 'A Shield with a Twist!', it beat Pikachu and Buizel in a Gym battle before losing to Chimchar.

### Fun facts

- Its base HP of 150 is the highest of any Flying type and ties Giratina's for the highest of any Ghost type.
- In the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure! manga, Hareta's Misdreavus uses Skill Swap to take Flint's Drifblim's Aftermath, so both Ghost Pokémon go down together.
- In the manga Phantom Thief Pokémon 7, the thief Hiori uses a Drifblim mainly for aerial transport.
