Mitosis Pokémon · Psychic-type

![Duosion official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/578.webp)

Duosion is a [Psychic](https://pokee.si/types/psychic)-type Pokémon, the Mitosis Pokémon, number 578 (#0578) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 5 and comes from the [Unova](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/unova) region. It is 0.6 m tall and weighs 8 kg.

Duosion is the Mitosis Pokémon, a Psychic type whose brain has split in two, so it often tries to do two different things at once. Its psychic power peaks only on the rare occasions when both halves agree.

## How to pronounce Duosion

Duosion is pronounced **doo-OH-zhun**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Duosion is pale green, 0.6 m tall and 8 kg, with a big head, small stubby arms and a body that narrows to a point underneath. Its eyes are black ovals and its red mouth is shaped like a diamond. A darker green gel wraps its body and bulges into small round lumps along the lower sides and over its head, and a little round object floats inside it above the head.

### Behaviour

The Pokédex says its brain has split in two and the halves rarely think alike, so it is utterly unpredictable and may suddenly try two different actions at once. The Sword entry adds that its psychic power can supposedly reach beyond 0.8 km (half a mile), though only when both brains are in agreement.

### Habitat

The Pokédex gives no habitat. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in the Polar Biome of the Indigo Disk expansion's Terarium and in 3 star Tera Raid Battles.

### Powers

Duosion shares its line's Abilities: Overcoat and Magic Guard, with Regenerator hidden. It learns Ally Switch at level 28, Pain Split at 35 and Psychic at 40. With 125 base Special Attack and just 30 Speed, it suits a slow, hard-hitting Trick Room team.

### Name origin

Duosion may combine 'duo' (two) with 'fission', 'division' or 'fusion'. The Japanese name is Doublan (ダブラン), which may join 'double' with 卵 ran (egg cell).

### Design inspiration

Its category, Mitosis Pokémon, and the line down its head that looks like a cleavage furrow both point to a cell dividing in two. Bulbapedia also floats an embryo about to become a foetus, with the green gel as amniotic fluid. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Duosion evolves from Solosis at level 32 and into Reuniclus at level 41.

### In the games

Duosion is a White version exclusive, found on Route 9, and it debuted there; Shield's Max Raid Battles also feature it. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.

### In the anime

Officer Jenny's Duosion helps hunt for a so-called Dream Thief in 'Beheeyem, Duosion, and the Dream Thief!', its first episode. Several Duosion had already appeared in the twin Victini films, under Damon.

### Fun facts

- Duosion's base stat total of 370 is 20 below Gothorita's 390, the one stage where the Solosis and Gothita lines do not match.
- In the Dream World it could be found at Spooky Manor, but only by players whose account was linked to Black 2 or White 2.
- The Chinese names count the cells: 单卵细胞球 for Solosis and 双卵细胞球 for Duosion, which Bulbapedia reads as 'single' and 'double' egg-cell ball.
