![Duraludon official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/884.webp)

Duraludon is a [Steel](https://pokee.si/types/steel)/[Dragon](https://pokee.si/types/dragon)-type Pokémon, the Alloy Pokémon, number 884 (#0884) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 8 and comes from the [Galar](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/galar) region. It is 1.8 m tall and weighs 40 kg.

Duraludon is the Alloy Pokémon, a dinosaur-like dragon made of metal so light that it weighs only 40 kg, yet it can Gigantamax into a glass-windowed skyscraper.

## How to pronounce Duraludon

Duraludon is pronounced **dur-AL-uh-don**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Duraludon is 1.8 m tall and 40 kg, a bipedal, dinosaur-like Pokémon with a light grey and dark blue body, zigzag patterns and a permanent scowl. The Pokédex says its body is a special metal that is light, strong and scratch resistant, polished to a mirror finish. The metal holds heat, which Duraludon vents through slits in its tail.

### Behaviour

Duraludon dislikes rain because its body rusts easily, so it lives in caves. Bulbapedia says it has a rivalry with Tyranitar, which shares its habitat, and that the two often fight in the mountains of Galar, citing the official Sword and Shield site.

### Habitat

The Pokédex says it lives in caves, and Bulbapedia adds mountains in cold areas. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in the Polar Biome of The Indigo Disk's Terarium, a snowfield and cave area, and in Tera Raid Battles.

### Diet

Bulbapedia says it scrapes rock surfaces for food with its two differently shaped arms, but the Pokédex does not say what it eats.

### Powers

Duraludon has Light Metal or Heavy Metal, with Stalwart hidden. It shoots Steel Beam, which the anime says costs it energy from its own body, and also uses Flash Cannon and Dragon Claw. Gigantamax Duraludon is listed at 43 m, with glowing window-like panels, and the Pokédex says its cells are exceptionally hard even for a Steel type. It alone can use G-Max Depletion, which cuts the PP of the target's last move by 2. With 120 base Special Attack and 115 Defense but only 50 Special Defense, it is a hard-hitting special attacker.

### Name origin

Duraludon may blend 'duralumin', a light aluminium-copper alloy, with 'durable', 'dragon', the Spanish don ('lord') and -don, a common ending in the names of prehistoric animals taken from the Greek word for 'tooth'. The Japanese name is the same, Duraludon (ジュラルドン).

### Design inspiration

Duraludon, and especially its Gigantamax form, appears to take its shape from The Shard, the UK's tallest building, with the body of a theropod dinosaur. Its rivalry with Tyranitar may nod to kaiju films, in which skyscrapers famously get smashed. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Using a Metal Alloy on Duraludon evolves it into Archaludon.

### In the games

Players find Duraludon on Route 10, at Giant's Seat and at the Lake of Outrage in Sword and Shield, the games that introduced it, and Gigantamax Factor ones appear in Max Raid Battles at Giant's Seat. In Scarlet and Violet it arrives with The Indigo Disk. It is not available in Legends: Z-A. It is also a playable ranged attacker in Pokémon UNITE.

### In the anime

Raihan's Duraludon debuted in 'Toughing It Out!', where it was used against Leon and lost to his Charizard. Raihan's Gigantamax Duraludon also appears in the Twilight Wings episode 'Sky'.

### Fun facts

- Duraludon first showed up in a Sword and Shield trailer on 8 July 2019, alongside Alcremie, Rolycoly and Yamper.
- Before Generation IX, no other known Pokémon could have Stalwart as an Ability.
- Gigantamaxing exists only in Sword and Shield and Archaludon first appeared in The Indigo Disk, so no single game contains both Duraludon's Gigantamax form and its Evolution.
