Electric Pokémon · Electric-type

![Elekid official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/239.webp)

Elekid is a [Electric](https://pokee.si/types/electric)-type Pokémon, the Electric Pokémon, number 239 (#0239) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 2 and comes from the [Johto](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/johto) region. It is 0.6 m tall and weighs 23.5 kg.

Elekid is the Electric Pokémon, a baby that spins its arms like a generator and cheers up whenever thunder crashes. It is poor at storing what it makes, so the Pokédex says it sneaks into homes to feed from electrical outlets.

## How to pronounce Elekid

Elekid is pronounced **EL-ih-kid**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Elekid is a round, yellow, black-striped baby, 0.6 m tall and 23.5 kg, with bulky arms ending in three claws and a lightning bolt on its chest. Its two horns look like the prongs of a power plug, and the Pokédex says they shine bluish white when it is fully charged.

### Behaviour

Elekid gets restless and rowdy as a storm approaches and plays happily through the worst thunder. It tires easily, so spinning its arms charges it only a little, and if it touches metal and discharges it starts spinning again to recharge. An Ultra Sun entry suggests recording thunder to play when it is feeling down.

### Habitat

The Pokédex habitat is grassland. In Scarlet and Violet it lives in the Indigo Disk's Canyon, Polar and Savanna Biomes and Chargestone Cavern. It is not obtainable in Legends: Z-A.

### Powers

Its Abilities are Static and Vital Spirit, which is hidden. It learns Thunder Shock, Quick Attack, Thunder Punch, Thunderbolt and Thunder, and its base Speed of 95 is quick for a baby.

### Name origin

Elekid may combine 'electric' and 'kid'. The Japanese name is Elekid (エレキッド), from eleki, 'electric', in the same way.

### Design inspiration

As Electabuzz's baby form, Elekid may take after an oni, a Japanese ogre. Its horns look like the prongs of power plugs from both the United States and Japan, and spinning its arms works like an electric generator. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Elekid evolves into Electabuzz at level 30.

### In the games

Elekid first appeared in Gold and Silver as one of the Generation II baby Pokémon.

### In the anime

Paul's Elekid fights Ash's Pikachu in 'When Pokémon Worlds Collide!', and evolves into Electabuzz in 'Smells Like Team Spirit' in the middle of the tag-team contest held in Hearthome City.

### Fun facts

- A Legends: Arceus entry says that lively children's voices heard out in the wilderness during a thunderstorm are really Elekid.
- A Moon entry says Elekid keeps battling Togedemaru that want to swipe its power, and the match is close.
- In the Spaceworld '97 demo it appears to have been Erebebī (エレベビー), an upside-down lightbulb with feet.
- In English, Elekid, Electabuzz and Kantonian Zapdos all share the category Electric Pokémon.
