Egg Pokémon · Grass/Psychic-type

![Exeggcute official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/102.webp)

Exeggcute is a [Grass](https://pokee.si/types/grass)/[Psychic](https://pokee.si/types/psychic)-type Pokémon, the Egg Pokémon, number 102 (#0102) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 1 and comes from the [Kanto](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/kanto) region. It is 0.4 m tall and weighs 2.5 kg.

Exeggcute is the Egg Pokémon, but those six pink 'eggs' are really seed-like creatures that talk by telepathy. The Pokédex says that if one goes missing, by the next morning there will be six again.

## How to pronounce Exeggcute

Exeggcute is pronounced **EKS-eg-kyoot**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Exeggcute is a cluster of six pale pink, egg-like shells, 0.4 m tall and 2.5 kg in all, usually drawn as five heads gathered around a sixth. Every head wears a slightly different expression, and some shells are cracked, with the yellow inside showing. The Pokédex says more cracks mean it is close to evolving, that it is really more like plant seeds than eggs, and that it is thought to hold genes from plants and other species. Alola's Exeggcute are the same size but heavier, because their shells are packed full.

### Behaviour

The six heads talk to each other by telepathy, attract one another and spin around, and they need all six to keep their balance. The Pokédex says that if one goes missing, the rest become nervous and cowardly. When disturbed they gather and attack in swarms, and they drive off Crabrawler with psychokinesis.

### Habitat

Forests; Bulbapedia adds jungles. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.

### Powers

It has Chlorophyll and the hidden Harvest. Its tricks include Sleep Powder, Stun Spore, Leech Seed, Giga Drain, Psychic and Solar Beam, and it hits with Bullet Seed and Seed Bomb. Its best base stat is 80 Defense, so it is mostly a stepping stone to Exeggutor.

### Name origin

Exeggcute may combine 'execute', 'egg' and 'cute'. Its Japanese name is Tamatama (タマタマ), which may come from tamago ('egg') and also plays on a word meaning 'unexpectedly'.

### Design inspiration

Ken Sugimori designed Exeggcute. It may be based on plant seeds as well as a clutch of eggs, with coconuts and an eggplant pun also possible. Its Psychic type may come from telepathy or from oomancy, a kind of divination done with egg whites. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

A Leaf Stone evolves it into Exeggutor, or into Alolan Exeggutor if the stone is used in Alola. Bulbapedia notes that all six individuals merge into one Exeggutor.

### In the games

Exeggcute has been a Kanto Grass and Psychic type since Generation I. In Scarlet and Violet it belongs to The Indigo Disk, where it lives in the Terarium's Savanna Biome, Coastal Biome and Torchlit Labyrinth and appears in 1-star Tera Raid Battles; players can also trade for one.

### In the anime

Melvin's Exeggcute hypnotises Ash in 'The March of the Exeggutor Squad' and later evolves without a Leaf Stone. In the Pikachu short 'Pikachu's Rescue Adventure', an Exeggcute with a missing member evolves once its eggs are put back together on a Leaf Stone.

### Fun facts

- In the Red and Green beta, Exeggcute's English working name was Eggstre.
- Within the Grass Egg Group, Exeggcute and Kantonian Exeggutor are the sole Psychic types.
- Bulbapedia says Barrage is a move that only Exeggcute and Exeggutor are known to be able to learn.

## Pokédex entries

These Pokémon get nervous when they're not in a group of six. The minute even one member of the group goes missing, Exeggcute become cowardly. *(Shield)*

Though it may look like it's just a bunch of eggs, it's a proper Pokémon. Exeggcute communicates with others of its kind via telepathy, apparently. *(Sword)*

The heads attract each other and spin around. There must be six heads for it to maintain balance. *(Let’s Go, Pikachu!, Let’s Go, Eevee!)*

Although they are the same size as other Exeggcute, the ones produced in Alola are quite heavy. Their shells are packed full. *(Ultra Moon)*

Six of them form a single Pokémon. Should one of the six be lost, the next morning there will once more be six. *(Ultra Sun)*

Six of them together form a full-fledged Pokémon. It's often hunted by Crabrawler, but uses psychokinesis to drive it off. *(Moon)*
