Farfetch'd is a [Normal](https://pokee.si/types/normal)/[Flying](https://pokee.si/types/flying)-type Pokémon, the Wild Duck Pokémon, number 83 (#0083) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 1 and comes from the [Kanto](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/kanto) region. It is 0.8 m tall and weighs 15 kg.

Farfetch'd is the Wild Duck Pokémon, a duck that is never seen without a leek, which it swings like a sword and will defend with its life.

## How to pronounce Farfetch'd

Farfetch'd is pronounced **FAR-fetcht**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Farfetch'd is a duck with light brown feathers and a white belly, a flat yellow beak, a black V-shaped mark on its forehead and a crest of three feathers. It is 0.8 m tall and weighs 15 kg. Its big wings work like hands, and it carries its leek stalk in them.

### Behaviour

Farfetch'd is picky about which stalks it uses, and Bulbapedia says it will fight over good ones. If it loses its stalk, it runs off to find another. It is rarely seen, and Bulbapedia says its numbers are thought to be falling because people hunted it for food.

### Habitat

Bulbapedia places Farfetch'd in temperate grasslands where reedy plants grow. It is not available in Scarlet and Violet; in Legends: Z-A it comes by trade, and the Mega Dimension DLC adds Hyperspace Lumiose.

### Diet

The Sword Pokédex says the stalk can serve as food in a dire situation.

### Powers

Its Abilities are Keen Eye and Inner Focus, with Defiant hidden. It cuts with Cut, Fury Cutter and Slash. Galarian Farfetch'd is a pure Fighting type with a much bigger leek; the Z-A Pokédex says it bets everything on one destructive blow. With base Attack 90 it hits hard, but its other stats are modest.

### Name origin

Farfetch'd probably plays on 'far-fetched', meaning hard to believe. The Japanese name is Kamonegi (カモネギ), built from kamo ('duck') and negi ('spring onion').

### Design inspiration

A duck is its obvious model, and it may nod to the Japanese saying 'a duck comes bearing spring onions', meaning an easy target or a golden opportunity.

### Evolution notes

Kantonian Farfetch'd does not evolve. Galarian Farfetch'd becomes Sirfetch'd after it scores three critical hits during one battle.

### In the games

In Gold, Silver and Crystal, an Azalea Town charcoal maker's Farfetch'd runs off into Ilex Forest, and herding it back earns you HM Cut. Farfetch'd debuted in Red and Green (Red and Blue outside Japan), where a Vermilion City trader offers it for a Spearow.

### In the anime

Farfetch'd debuted in 'So Near, Yet So Farfetch'd', owned by Keith, who used it in a scheme to take other Trainers' Pokémon. In 'Dreams Are Made of These!', Goh's Farfetch'd hit his Poké Ball back at him twice.

### Fun facts

- Its base stats add up to 377, a total no other Pokémon has; before X and Y raised its Attack, its old total of 352 was just as unique.
- Since Generation VI, a Farfetch'd holding its Leek that uses a move that already crits often always scores a critical hit.
- The Spaceworld '97 demo appears to show a scrapped Farfetch'd evolution called Madāmu (マダーム), a leek-holding, swan-like Pokémon.

## Pokédex entries

They use a plant stalk as a weapon, but not all of them use it in the same way. Several distinct styles of stalk fighting have been observed. *(Shield)*

The stalk this Pokémon carries in its wings serves as a sword to cut down opponents. In a dire situation, the stalk can also serve as food. *(Sword)*

They live where reedy plants grow. Farfetch'd are rarely seen, so it's thought their numbers are decreasing. *(Let’s Go, Pikachu!, Let’s Go, Eevee!)*

Farfetch'd is always seen with a stalk from a plant of some sort. Apparently, there are good stalks and bad stalks. This Pokémon has been known to fight with others over stalks. *(Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire)*

It always walks about with a plant stalk clamped in its beak. The stalk is used for building its nest. *(FireRed, Y)*

The plant stalk it holds is its weapon. The stalk is used like a sword to cut all sorts of things. *(LeafGreen, X)*
