# Feebas

Fish Pokémon · Water-type

![Feebas official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/349.webp)

Feebas is a [Water](https://pokee.si/types/water)-type Pokémon, the Fish Pokémon, number 349 (#0349) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 3 and comes from the [Hoenn](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/hoenn) region. It is 0.6 m tall and weighs 7.4 kg.

Feebas is called the shabbiest Pokémon of all, a ragged fish that the Pokédex says predators will not even eat. It becomes Milotic, which the Pokédex calls the most beautiful of all Pokémon.

## How to pronounce Feebas

Feebas is pronounced **FEE-bus**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Feebas is a fishlike Pokémon, 0.6 m tall and 7.4 kg, with a light brown body speckled with dark, uneven spots. Its large eyes are deep-set, and it has big pink lips, dull blue pectoral and tail fins that look torn, and a triangular dorsal fin with a hole in the middle.

### Behaviour

Feebas is hardy but dim: the Pokédex calls it slow and dimwitted, which makes it an easy catch once found. They cluster in set places and form schools. Hardly anyone raises one, though some collectors keep only Feebas.

### Habitat

The Pokédex places it in the sea, rivers and weed-choked ponds, and says it can survive on very little water.

### Diet

The Pokédex says it eats anything, which is why it can live even in polluted streams and lakes.

### Powers

Feebas has Swift Swim or Oblivious, with Adaptability hidden. By levelling up it learns only Splash, Tackle and Flail. Its base stats total only 200, with Speed 80 and Special Defense 55 the best of them, so it is valued for what it becomes.

### Name origin

Feebas may combine 'feeble' with 'sea bass', and it also sounds like the Greek phoibos, 'pure and radiant', perhaps hinting at Milotic. The Japanese name is Hinbass (ヒンバス), which may blend hin, 'poor', with 'bass'.

### Design inspiration

Feebas looks to be modelled on a bass, possibly the largemouth bass, and it also recalls the marine hatchetfish. Its drastic change into Milotic may echo the fairy tale of the Ugly Duckling, where an outcast cygnet grows into a beautiful swan.

### Evolution notes

Feebas evolves into Milotic when levelled up with a high Beauty condition or, from Generation V onwards, when it is traded while carrying a Prism Scale.

### In the games

Feebas is a hard find in Ruby and Sapphire, its first games, where it hides in a few fishing spots on Route 119 that move whenever Dewford Town's trend changes. In Scarlet and Violet it is in The Teal Mask's Crystal Pool and Oni Mountain and in Tera Raids; in Legends: Z-A it appears in the Mega Dimension DLC's Hyperspace Lumiose.

### In the anime

Feebas debuted in 'Whiscash and Ash', where it kept biting Jessie's hair. In 'The Cuteness Quotient!', Jinny's Feebas, Feeby, evolved into Milotic mid-battle, and Prism Scales are shown forming naturally on Feebas.

### Fun facts

- On Route 119 in Hoenn, only 6 of the route's 436 water tiles hold Feebas, which Bulbapedia works out as about 1 in 73.
- Bulbapedia treats Feebas as the counterpart of Magikarp: both are Fish Pokémon whose evolutions are serpentine, and the two have exactly the same level-up moves.
- When Spanish football club Celta de Vigo signed Aleix Febas, it announced him with Pokémon cards because his name looks like Feebas.
