# Flapple

Apple Wing Pokémon · Grass/Dragon-type

![Flapple official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/841.webp)

Flapple is a [Grass](https://pokee.si/types/grass)/[Dragon](https://pokee.si/types/dragon)-type Pokémon, the Apple Wing Pokémon, number 841 (#0841) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 8 and comes from the [Galar](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/galar) region. It is 0.3 m tall and weighs 1 kg.

Flapple is the Apple Wing Pokémon, a Grass and Dragon type that flaps on wings made of apple skin and spits acid strong enough to melt metal. When it wants to hide, it simply folds up into the shape of an apple.

## How to pronounce Flapple

Flapple is pronounced **FLAP-ul**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

In Japanese it is アップリュー (Appryu).

## Lore

### Biology

Flapple is a green dragon with a worm-like body, 0.3 m tall and 1.0 kg, with a pale green underside and yellow eyes. Parts of an apple make up its body: one piece sits on its head with a single horn poking out, another is fixed to its tail, and the side pieces are attached to its arms to work as wings. The Pokédex says its cheeks store an acid that can cause chemical burns, and the Scarlet entry says it can melt metal. It mends its apple with its own body fluid, and the Violet Pokédex says veterans of many battles have clay-coloured apples.

### Behaviour

Flapple flutters around its opponent looking for a gap in its guard, then spits acid. It can fold its wings and change into the shape of an apple, according to the Pokédex, and the Sword entry says it ate a sour apple to evolve.

### Habitat

The Pokédex gives no habitat; Serebii lists Grass and Forest biomes in Kitakami, where it appears at Mossfell Confluence in The Teal Mask. Elsewhere in Paldea you meet one in 5-star Tera Raid Battles or by evolving Applin, and it is not available in Legends: Z-A.

### Powers

Flapple's signature move is Grav Apple, learnt at level 32 and, Bulbapedia says, known to no other Pokémon. It also gets Dragon Dance and Dragon Rush, and its Abilities are Ripen and Gluttony, with Hustle hidden. Gigantamax Flapple wraps itself in a giant apple and gushes sweet nectar whose aroma makes other Pokémon faint, and only it can use G-Max Tartness. Base Attack 110 makes it a hard hitter.

### Name origin

Flapple appears to combine 'flap' and 'apple'. The Japanese name Appryu (アップリュー) may combine 'apple' with ryū (竜, 'dragon').

### Design inspiration

Like its relatives, Flapple appears to be based on the image of a worm in an apple, with a pun on 'wyrm'; its wings may nod to the wyvern. Bulbapedia also suggests that a flying apple with the move Grav Apple could allude to Isaac Newton and the falling apple. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Applin becomes Flapple when it is given a Tart Apple, and Flapple does not evolve further.

### In the games

Wild Flapple, including ones with the Gigantamax Factor, appear only in Sword's Max Raid Battles according to Bulbapedia's table, in Sword and Shield, where it debuted. In Scarlet and Violet it appears in 5-star Tera Raid Battles.

### In the anime

Flapple appeared in the film 'Secrets of the Jungle' before its series debut in 'Paring Pokémon While Parrying!'. In 'Showdown! The Paldea Elite Four', Hassel's Flapple helps his Baxcalibur win a battle against Roy and Brassius.

### Fun facts

- Bulbapedia says Flapple and Appletun are the only two species with physically identical Gigantamax forms, yet they count as different species with their own Pokédex text, G-Max Moves and cries.
- Gigantamax Flapple is listed as 24.0+ m (78 ft 9 in+) tall, at least 80 times its normal height.
- Bulbapedia says Flapple is the lightest Pokémon that can learn Heavy Slam.
