# Fletchinder

Ember Pokémon · Fire/Flying-type

Fletchinder is a [Fire](https://pokee.si/types/fire)/[Flying](https://pokee.si/types/flying)-type Pokémon, the Ember Pokémon, number 662 (#0662) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 6 and comes from the [Kalos](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/kalos) region. It is 0.7 m tall and weighs 16 kg.

Fletchinder is the Ember Pokémon, a hot-tempered bird with a flame sac in its belly. The Pokédex says the hotter that fire burns, the faster it flies, and the Ultra Moon entry claims that even just after take-off it is among the fastest of all bird Pokémon.

## Lore

### Biology

Fletchinder is a bird with orange and black plumage, 0.7 m tall and 16 kg. It has a sharp black beak, yellow mask-like markings behind its eyes, a small pointed crest and a flame-shaped pattern on its chest along the line where its red-orange upper side meets its grey belly. Its wings are black with yellow tips, its legs end in sharp black talons, and its long tail keeps Fletchling's arrow-fletching look.

### Behaviour

Fletchinder is aggressive and territorial, even towards its own kind. The Shield Pokédex says they fight each other over feeding grounds, and the Violet entry says it shows no mercy to any bird that enters its territory, a zone just over 1.6 km (1 mile) in radius.

### Habitat

The Pokédex gives no habitat. In Scarlet and Violet it ranges across several Paldean provinces and The Indigo Disk. In Legends: Z-A it is wild around Lumiose's districts and in Wild Zones 5, 7 and 9, with more in the Mega Dimension DLC.

### Diet

Bug Pokémon. The Pokédex says it fires embers into tall grass, pounces on the prey that flee and, in the Sun entry, grills them before eating.

### Powers

Fletchinder gets Flame Charge when it evolves and keeps Ember, then later learns Acrobatics, Agility, Aerial Ace, Tailwind and Fly. Its Ability is Flame Body, which can burn attackers that touch it, and Gale Wings is hidden. Base Attack 73 and Speed 84 make it a fast physical attacker.

### Name origin

Fletchinder may combine 'fletching' with 'tinder' or 'cinder'. The Japanese name is Hinoyakoma (ヒノヤコマ), possibly from hinoko ('sparks'), ya ('arrow') and komadori ('Japanese robin').

### Design inspiration

Fletchinder seems to mix features of a Japanese robin with a waxwing, and its Fire typing may nod to the flame robin, a bird with a fiery breast. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Fletchling evolves into Fletchinder at level 17, and Fletchinder evolves into Talonflame at level 35.

### In the games

In Alola Fletchinder appears on Route 8. It first appeared in X and Y, in the Fire and Flying Friend Safari.

### In the anime

Nico's Fletchinder debuted in 'Breaking Titles at the Chateau!', beating Farrell's Dusknoir at the Battle Chateau. Ash's Fletchling evolved into a Fletchinder in 'Battles in the Sky!'.

### Fun facts

- Bulbapedia says Fletchinder is the first Pokémon with an English name over 10 letters, and the only such Pokémon in Generation VI, because earlier games capped English names at 10 characters, which is why Feraligatr's name was shortened.
- It shares the category Ember Pokémon with Simisear, and in Japanese both share the category Sparks Pokémon with Charcadet.
- In the manga Pokémon Adventures, Y's Fletchling evolves into a Fletchinder during a battle in the chapter 'Burning Fletchinder'.
