# Garbodor

Trash Heap Pokémon · Poison-type

![Garbodor official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/569.webp)

Garbodor is a [Poison](https://pokee.si/types/poison)-type Pokémon, the Trash Heap Pokémon, number 569 (#0569) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 5 and comes from the [Unova](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/unova) region. It is 1.9 m tall and weighs 107.3 kg.

Garbodor is the Trash Heap Pokémon, a walking mound of junk that turns whatever it eats into poison. The Pokédex claims a squirt of the poison it flings from its right arm is enough to finish off a foe that is already weakened.

## How to pronounce Garbodor

Garbodor is pronounced **GAR-buh-dor**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Garbodor looks like a heap of rubbish spilling from a torn bin bag, with the ripped end trailing behind its head like a cape. It is 1.9 m tall and weighs 107.3 kg, with round eyes, triangular teeth and two arms of junk: one held together by piping, the other by rebar. The Pokédex says the poison comes out of the fingertips of its right hand, while its left hand clenches opponents so a foul gas can be belched over them.

### Behaviour

Garbodor is a grabbing, smothering fighter; the Pokédex says it locks opponents in place and douses them in poison. Muk are its natural enemy. The Ultra Moon entry adds that some people credit the Muk around them for making Alola's Garbodor somewhat tougher than those elsewhere.

### Habitat

Bulbapedia says it prefers unsanitary places such as rubbish dumps. The Pokédex says Alola once had a Garbodor boom, but numbers fell sharply after Grimer arrived there.

### Diet

It eats rubbish, and the Pokédex says the main component of its poison depends on what it ate.

### Powers

Its Abilities are Stench and Weak Armor, which raises Speed and lowers Defense whenever a physical move hits it, with Aftermath hidden. It fights with Gunk Shot, Sludge Bomb, Belch and Explosion. Gigantamax Garbodor can use G-Max Malodor, a Poison move that damages its target and poisons every Pokémon on the target's side of the field. With 95 base Attack and 82 Defense and Special Defense, it is a sturdy poisoner.

### Name origin

Garbodor may combine 'garbage' and 'odour', and could also nod to the garburator, a waste-disposal unit. The Japanese name is Dustdas (ダストダス), which may blend 'dust' with a word for taking out the rubbish.

### Design inspiration

Garbodor is based on a bin bag bursting with rubbish. Bulbapedia suggests its grey Shiny colour may nod to dust bunnies, and that a conscious pile of junk may echo tsukumogami, everyday objects that come to life in Japanese folklore. Its Gigantamax form appears to be modelled on a landfill.

### Evolution notes

Evolves from Trubbish at level 36.

### In the games

Wild Max Raid Battle Garbodor in Sword and Shield carry the Gigantamax Factor, at East Lake Axewell and in the Crown Tundra. It debuted in Black and White, where it is on Route 9. It is not in Scarlet and Violet, but in Legends: Z-A it lives in Jaune District and Centrico Plaza, with more in the Mega Dimension DLC's Hyperspace Lumiose.

### In the anime

Roxie's Garbodor beat Ash's Pignite and Palpitoad in 'Rocking the Virbank Gym! Part 2' before Pikachu knocked it out once its Static Ability had paralysed it. In 'Young Kiawe Had a Farm!' a Garbodor owned by Zipp debuted, and it went on to be his main Pokémon in the Alola series.

### Fun facts

- Bulbapedia says Garbodor is the only Generation V Pokémon with a Gigantamax form.
- Gigantamax Garbodor's gas sets into toy shapes: a car, blocks, a plane, a cruise ship, a train, a Poké Doll, a Master Ball and a fish skeleton like Magikarp's.
- Bulbapedia notes that the toy plane resembles Latios, and that on the Shiny version it resembles Latias.

## Pokédex entries

Some say the reason Garbodor in Alola are a little stronger than their counterparts elsewhere is the presence of Muk, their natural enemy. *(Ultra Moon)*

The toxic liquid it launches from its right arm is so virulent that it can kill a weakened creature instantly. *(Shield)*

This Pokémon eats trash, which turns into poison inside its body. The main component of the poison depends on what sort of trash was eaten. *(Sword)*

It locks opponents in place with its left hand, immobilizing them by entirely dousing their bodies with poisonous liquid. *(Ultra Sun)*

For a time, their numbers increased explosively in Alola. Since the arrival of Grimer, their population has decreased dramatically. *(Moon)*

Beware the poisonous liquid it shoots from its right arm. If even a little of it gets on you, you'll experience the effects of the unidentified toxin. *(Sun)*
