Generator Pokémon · Electric/Normal-type

![Heliolisk official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/695.webp)

Heliolisk is a [Electric](https://pokee.si/types/electric)/[Normal](https://pokee.si/types/normal)-type Pokémon, the Generator Pokémon, number 695 (#0695) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 6 and comes from the [Kalos](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/kalos) region. It is 1 m tall and weighs 21 kg.

Heliolisk is the Generator Pokémon, an Electric and Normal type whose open frill soaks up sunlight to make enough electricity for a skyscraper. A vanished desert culture treasured it, the Pokédex says.

## How to pronounce Heliolisk

Heliolisk is pronounced **HEE-lee-oh-lisk**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Heliolisk is a yellow lizard, 1.0 m tall and 21 kg, with a black head and a black frill edged with orange spikes that it raises to frame its face. The Pokédex says it zaps its leg muscles with electricity to boost them, which lets it cover about 91 m (100 yards) in five seconds.

### Behaviour

Bulbapedia says it can even sprint across water without breaking the surface, as shown in the card game and in New Pokémon Snap.

### Habitat

The Pokédex gives no habitat, though its pre-evolution lives in deserts. Bulbapedia reads the Sword entry as saying it first came to Galar together with treasure.

### Powers

Heliolisk's Abilities are Dry Skin and Sand Veil, with Solar Power hidden. It fires Thunderbolt, Discharge and Volt Switch, and can use Surf and Dark Pulse. With base Special Attack and Speed both at 109 it is a fast, special-leaning Electric attacker.

### Name origin

Heliolisk may combine the Ancient Greek hḗlios ('sun'), basilisk and possibly obelisk. The Japanese name is Elezard (エレザード), perhaps from elekiter or 'electric', erimaki tokage ('frilled lizard') and the French lézard ('lizard').

### Design inspiration

Heliolisk probably draws on the frilled lizard, and with its frill open it looks like the sun seen from the front. The black colouring may possibly reference a solar eclipse, and its title suggests solar power generation. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Heliolisk evolves from Helioptile when it is exposed to a Sun Stone, and it does not evolve further.

### In the games

In Legends: Z-A Heliolisk is wild in Centrico Plaza (Wild Zone 20) and, in the Mega Dimension DLC, in Hyperspace Lumiose. It first appeared in X and Y and is not in Scarlet and Violet.

### In the anime

Clemont's Heliolisk debuted in 'Clemont's Got a Secret!' and stays behind with Clembot to fight Gym battles while Clemont travels. In 'The Cave of Trials!', a Trainer buys a Sun Stone to evolve a Helioptile, which leads Clemont to admit he evolved his own that way.

### Fun facts

- Heliolisk and Helioptile are the only Pokémon with three Abilities that react to three different weather conditions: Dry Skin to rain, Sand Veil to sandstorms and Solar Power to harsh sunlight.
- Heliolisk was the first Pokémon whose Korean name has more than five hangul characters.
- Bulbapedia says Heliolisk and Helioptile were paired with the Japanese football club Kashiwa Reysol in 2026, part of a Pokémon Company tie-up with the J1 League.

## Pokédex entries

One Heliolisk basking in the sun with its frill outspread is all it would take to produce enough electricity to power a city. *(Shield)*

A now-vanished desert culture treasured these Pokémon. Appropriately, when Heliolisk came to the Galar region, treasure came with them. *(Sword)*

It stimulates its muscles with electricity, boosting the strength in its legs and enabling it to run 100 yards in five seconds. *(Y, Alpha Sapphire)*

They flare their frills and generate energy. A single Heliolisk can generate sufficient electricity to power a skyscraper. *(X, Omega Ruby)*
