Jellicent is a [Water](https://pokee.si/types/water)/[Ghost](https://pokee.si/types/ghost)-type Pokémon, the Floating Pokémon, number 593 (#0593) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 5 and comes from the [Unova](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/unova) region. It is 2.2 m tall and weighs 135 kg.

Jellicent is the Floating Pokémon whose body is mostly sea water, a regal jellyfish that fishers dread. The Pokédex says it is rumoured to drag them under, favours life energy as a meal and is said to keep a castle of sunken ships on the seabed.

## How to pronounce Jellicent

## Lore

### Biology

Jellicent is a large jellyfish, 2.2 m tall and 135 kg. Both genders have five tentacles: two long ones ending in petal shapes and three short, tapered ones. Males are blue and wear a stubby white crown over a white collar with a moustache-like front; females are pink with a tall white crown, a puffy collar and a red heart-shaped mark under the eyes. Bulbapedia says its crown grows bigger the more life energy it drains.

### Behaviour

Jellicent travels by taking in sea water and squirting it out of its body. The Pokédex says schools gather near the surface under a full moon, waiting for prey, and that ships and crews wandering into its waters are lost without trace.

### Habitat

The Pokédex says it makes sunken ships its lair and mentions a castle of wrecks it has built on the seafloor. It is not available in Scarlet and Violet or in Legends: Z-A.

### Diet

The Pokédex says its favourite food is life energy.

### Powers

Jellicent has Water Absorb or Cursed Body, with Damp hidden. It recovers with Recover, hits with Scald and Shadow Ball, and can take a foe down with it using Destiny Bond, while base Special Defense of 105 and 100 HP make it a durable defender.

### Name origin

Jellicent may combine 'jellyfish' with 'magnificent' or 'translucent'. The Japanese name is Burungel (ブルンゲル), possibly from burunburun (shaking) and 'gel'.

### Design inspiration

Bulbapedia suggests its bulk comes from the giant phantom jelly, its frills from royal dress (a king for the male, a queen for the female) and its ship-sinking reputation from sea monsters like the Kraken. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Jellicent evolves from Frillish at level 40 and does not evolve further.

### In the games

Jellicent turns up by surfing in rippling water on Routes 4, 17 and 18 in Black and White, where it debuted. It returns in Sword and Shield, including the Lake of Outrage, and appears in the Basin Pokédex of Pokémon Pokopia.

### In the anime

Rizzo's male and female Jellicent debuted in 'Guarding the Guardian of the Mountain!', where Brycen's Beartic beat them. In 'The Road to Humilau!' Marlon's male Jellicent lost to Cameron's Ferrothorn in a Gym battle.

### Fun facts

- Among Water types introduced in Generation V, Jellicent is both the tallest and the heaviest.
- In the opening scenes of the two Victini films, the Zekrom version shows a female Jellicent and the Reshiram version a male one.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Shauntal's female Jellicent is used to provoke Thundurus and Tornadus into fighting each other.
