# Kleavor

Axe Pokémon · Bug/Rock-type

![Kleavor official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/900.webp)

Kleavor is a [Bug](https://pokee.si/types/bug)/[Rock](https://pokee.si/types/rock)-type Pokémon, the Axe Pokémon, number 900 (#0900) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 8 and comes from the [Hisui](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/hisui) region. It is 1.8 m tall and weighs 89 kg.

Kleavor is the Axe Pokémon, a Bug and Rock type with heavy black stone axes for forelimbs. A Noble Kleavor guards the Obsidian Fieldlands in Legends: Arceus, and the Pokédex's advice for meeting a wild one is to flee.

## How to pronounce Kleavor

Kleavor is pronounced **KLEE-vor**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

In Japanese it is バサギリ (Basagiri).

## Lore

### Biology

Kleavor is a mantis-like insect, 1.8 m tall and 89 kg, with a craggy beige and white body. Black rock rings each shoulder, masks its brows and forms a shard on its head, and its wings have shrivelled to vestiges. Its forelimbs end in heavy black rock axes; Bulbapedia says bigger chips on its stones mark a veteran.

### Behaviour

Kleavor is rough, crude and violent, the Pokédex says, and it uses its heavy stone axes to deliver the final blow to prey. Bulbapedia adds that chopping down trees is how it marks its territory, and that Hisui's settlers made tools from the stone shards it shed in battle.

### Habitat

The Pokédex gives no habitat. In Legends: Arceus the Noble Kleavor is in the Obsidian Fieldlands. In Scarlet and Violet's Indigo Disk it lives in the Terarium's Canyon Biome, and in Legends: Z-A it is in the Mega Dimension DLC's Hyperspace Lumiose.

### Powers

Its Abilities are Swarm and Sheer Force, with Sharpness hidden, which powers up slicing moves. Bulbapedia says only Kleavor can learn its signature move Stone Axe. With 135 base Attack and 85 base Speed it is a hard-hitting physical attacker.

### Name origin

Kleavor appears to twist 'cleaver', or to blend 'cleaver' with 'razor'. The Japanese name is Basagiri (バサギリ), which may blend bassari ('in a single stroke') and masakari ('broadaxe').

### Design inspiration

Kleavor may draw on the praying mantis, perhaps a dead leaf mantis, and its stones appear to be obsidian. The axes may nod to the idiom tōrō no ono ('the mantis's axe'), about a brave but doomed resistance. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Scyther evolves into Kleavor when a Black Augurite is used on it.

### In the games

In Legends: Arceus, where it debuted, a Noble Kleavor is a boss and supporting character. The Indigo Disk brought it to Scarlet and Violet.

### In the anime

Lucius's Kleavor, one of the Six Heroes, physically debuts at the very end of 'Into a New Sky! The Brave Olivine!'. In 'Kleavor the Solitary Warrior' it returns to its Ancient Poké Ball and lets Liko look after it.

### Fun facts

- In Legends: Arceus's internal code its Hidden Ability is Steadfast, not Sharpness.
- Bulbapedia says its base Attack was 130 and its Special Defense 75 in Scarlet and Violet before update 1.2.0, a change that was undone once Kleavor became available.
- Bulbapedia says Kleavor is the only Rock type in the game's two-or-more-pairs-of-wings body shape group, even though its wings have shrivelled to vestiges.
- Scyther can carry some old origin marks and Kleavor inherits them: it is the only Legends: Arceus newcomer that can show the Galar symbol, the Let's Go mark or the GBA mark.
