Cricket Pokémon · Bug-type

![Kricketot official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/401.webp)

Kricketot is a [Bug](https://pokee.si/types/bug)-type Pokémon, the Cricket Pokémon, number 401 (#0401) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 4 and comes from the [Sinnoh](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/sinnoh) region. It is 0.3 m tall and weighs 2.2 kg.

Kricketot is a Bug type that makes music with its own head: it knocks its antennae together to produce xylophone-like notes, which is how it talks to other Kricketot. Its short legs make it stumble a lot, and every stumble is a little concert.

## How to pronounce Kricketot

Kricketot is pronounced **KRIK-et-ot**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Kricketot is 0.3 m tall and weighs 2.2 kg. Its body is mostly red, with a stripe of pale yellow down the front, a black cape-like marking across its back and a flat yellow collar around its head, bigger on the female. Its two hard black antennae curl at the tips, and its hands and feet are small and black.

### Behaviour

The Pokédex says Kricketot chats with others through the sounds of its colliding antennae, which it knocks together by shaking its head back and forth. Its legs are short, so whenever it stumbles the stiff antennae clack together. Bulbapedia says they gather in greater numbers on autumn nights.

### Habitat

The Pokédex gives no habitat. In Scarlet and Violet it lives in South Province Area Two, and in The Teal Mask in Kitakami around Reveler's Road, Kitakami Hall, Mossfell Confluence and Oni Mountain.

### Powers

Kricketot's Ability is Shed Skin, which gives it a 33% chance each turn of curing a status condition; Run Away is hidden. Its only level-up moves are Tackle, Growl, Struggle Bug and Bug Bite, and its base stats are very low, with 37 HP and just 25 Attack and Special Attack. Its job is to evolve.

### Name origin

Kricketot may blend 'cricket' with 'tot' (a toddler) or 'totter'. The Japanese name is Korobohshi (コロボーシ), perhaps from koorogi (cricket) and okiagari-kobōshi, a doll in the traditional roly-poly style that always rights itself.

### Design inspiration

Bulbapedia credits Atsuko Nishida with designing Kricketot. It looks like a cricket, and Bulbapedia also sees a musician in it, perhaps a conductor, with a body that works as a living instrument. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Kricketot evolves into Kricketune at level 10.

### In the games

Players meet Kricketot on early routes such as 202, 203 and 204 of Diamond and Pearl, where it debuted. In Scarlet and Violet it also appears in 1-star Tera Raid Battles, and it is not available in Legends: Z-A.

### In the anime

Kricketot debuted in 'Dawn Of A New Era!'. In the performance round of the Sinnoh Grand Festival, Nando used one alongside his Altaria.

### Fun facts

- Its base stat total of 194 is the lowest of any Generation IV Pokémon, and its base Speed of 25 is the lowest of any Generation IV Bug type.
- A Legends: Arceus Pokédex entry compares the tone of its antennae to a marimba and calls that an instrument of foreign lands.
- In Pokémon Adventures, a swarm of Kricketot and Kricketune attacks Platinum in the chapter 'Putting a Crimp in Kricketot'.
