It was introduced in Generation 6 and comes from the [Kalos](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/kalos) region. It is 0.6 m tall and weighs 13.5 kg.

Litleo is the Lion Cub Pokémon, a hot-headed Fire and Normal type whose short mane heats up the stronger its opponent is. Once it can hunt on its own, it leaves its pride to live alone and grow stronger.

## Lore

### Biology

Litleo is a lion cub on four legs, 0.6 m tall and 13.5 kg, mostly dark brown with paler paws, ears, tail tip and face. A reddish-orange tuft of mane sits between its round ears. The Pokédex says its mane gets hot when it is angry or fighting, and the tougher its opponent, the hotter the mane burns and the stronger Litleo becomes.

### Behaviour

Litleo is hot-blooded, curious and quick to start a fight. It grows up in a pride where female Pyroar teach the young to hunt, and when it can catch prey alone it is kicked out to make its own way. The Violet Pokédex says the more it trains against mighty enemies, the hotter its mane grows.

### Habitat

Bulbapedia places it on grassy plains and cliff sides. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in the East and South Provinces and in The Indigo Disk's Savanna biome, and in Legends: Z-A in Wild Zone 3 and in Hyperspace Lumiose in the Mega Dimension DLC.

### Powers

Its Abilities are Rivalry, which boosts its damage against Pokémon of the same gender and cuts it against the opposite gender, Unnerve, which stops opponents eating Berries, and the hidden Moxie. It learns Ember at level 5, Noble Roar at level 15 and Flamethrower at level 36. Base Special Attack 73 and Speed 72 make it a fairly quick special attacker.

### Name origin

Litleo may combine 'little', 'lit' and 'leo', Latin for 'lion'. The Japanese name is Shishiko (シシコ), which may blend shishi ('lion') and ko ('child').

### Design inspiration

A lion cub is the model for Litleo, and Bulbapedia notes that its red hair looks like a mohawk.

### Evolution notes

Litleo evolves into Pyroar at level 35.

### In the games

In X and Y, its first games, Litleo is found on Route 22. In Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon it appears only in the Poké Pelago, and only after you have become Champion.

### In the anime

In 'A Fiery Rite of Passage!' Ash helps a cub that has been made to leave its pride become independent. Litleo also appears in 'Pikachu, What's This Key?' as a resident of an icy world reached with Klefki's keys.

### Fun facts

- Before Generation VII, Litleo and Pyroar were the only Pokémon known to learn Noble Roar.
- Litleo and Pyroar are the only Pokémon with a gender ratio of one male to seven females.
- Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have a Litleonid meteor shower, named for Litleo as a nod to the real Leonids.
- They are also the only Pokémon with Moxie whose base Special Attack is higher than their base Attack.
