Rabbit Pokémon · Normal-type

![Lopunny official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/428.webp)

Lopunny is a [Normal](https://pokee.si/types/normal)-type Pokémon, the Rabbit Pokémon, number 428 (#0428) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 4 and comes from the [Sinnoh](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/sinnoh) region. It is 1.2 m tall and weighs 33.3 kg.

Lopunny is the Rabbit Pokémon, a graceful Normal type that looks all fluff until someone handles its ears roughly, when the Pokédex says it kicks like a karate master. Its Mega form drops the softness altogether.

## How to pronounce Lopunny

Lopunny is pronounced **loh-PUN-ee**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

In Japanese it is ミミロップ (Mimilop).

## Lore

### Biology

Lopunny is 1.2 m tall and weighs 33.3 kg, a bipedal rabbit with dark-brown fur, pink eyes and cream tufts above its eyes, on its wrists and lower legs and on the ends of its long, bent ears. The Pokédex says it grooms its ears without fail, and that its coat is warm yet remarkably light. It sheds the coat twice a year, and its fur makes very warm mufflers and hats.

### Behaviour

Lopunny is cautious and keeps a constant watch on everything around it. The Pokédex says it bounds away or wraps its ear fur around its body when danger is near, and that it dislikes fighting. Even so, the Legends: Z-A entry warns that its ears are delicate and must be handled with care, or it will kick with its graceful legs.

### Habitat

The Pokédex gives no habitat. In Legends: Z-A it is found in Wild Zone 18, and in the Mega Dimension DLC in Hyperspace Lumiose. It is not available in Scarlet and Violet.

### Powers

Cute Charm gives a 30% chance of infatuating a Pokémon that attacks it on contact; Klutz and hidden Limber are its other Abilities. It kicks with Double Kick and High Jump Kick and can use Healing Wish, Mirror Coat and Magic Coat. Mega Lopunny, which uses Lopunnite and debuted in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, is Normal and Fighting type with the Ability Scrappy and base Attack 136, and Bulbapedia says its whip-like ears can crumple steel plates. The normal form has base Speed 105 and Special Defense 96.

### Name origin

Lopunny combines 'lop', a rabbit breed with floppy ears, and 'bunny'. The Japanese name is Mimilop (ミミロップ), which may combine mimi (耳, 'ear') and 'lop'.

### Design inspiration

Lopunny looks like a lop rabbit crossed with a mountain hare. Bulbapedia's fan readings link its cuffed gloves, boots and fluffy ears to winter fashion and gyaru styles, and Mega Lopunny to 1980s aerobics outfits. These are fan readings, not official statements.

### Evolution notes

Lopunny evolves from Buneary when it levels up with high friendship.

### In the games

Lopunny leads Team Charm in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness. It first appeared in Diamond and Pearl as Buneary's evolution, and it returns in Legends: Z-A with Lumiose Pokédex number 110, where Mega Lopunny has an entry of its own.

### In the anime

Paris's Lopunny debuted in 'Arriving in Style!' and helped defeat Team Rocket when they tried to steal the accessories at the Hearthome Collection. Nando used one at the Sinnoh Grand Festival in 'Coming Full-Festival Circle!'.

### Fun facts

- Among Generation VI's Mega Evolvers, Lopunny alone is missing from both the Hoenn and Kalos Pokédexes, though it has a place in the Lumiose Pokédex of Legends: Z-A.
- Lopunny's base friendship is 140, nearly three times the 50 that most Pokémon have and the opposite of Buneary's 0.
- Mega Lopunny's base Speed of 135 is the highest of any form with the Normal type.
- In the Explorers of Sky special episode starring Team Charm, Lopunny ends almost all her sentences with hearts.
