Lumineon is a [Water](https://pokee.si/types/water)-type Pokémon, the Neon Pokémon, number 457 (#0457) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 4 and comes from the [Sinnoh](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/sinnoh) region. It is 1.2 m tall and weighs 24 kg.

Lumineon is the Neon Pokémon, a fish whose glowing, wing-like fins lure in prey, even though the same light also draws the fierce fish that hunt it. A school near the surface at night looks like stars, the Pokédex says.

## Lore

### Biology

Lumineon is a dark blue fish, 1.2 m long and 24 kg, with deep pink eyes, a light blue face and a light blue band around its body. Its four big pectoral fins look like butterfly wings, with light blue markings that glow; on a female the lower pair is longer. Its long tail ends in a deep pink spot.

### Behaviour

Lumineon travels in schools. Pokédex entries say it lives on the sea floor and crawls along it on its chest fins to avoid predators. They add that it fights fiercely with Lanturn over food, which is scarce in the deep sea.

### Habitat

The Pokédex says it lives deep in the sea. In Scarlet and Violet it is in the North and West Paldean Seas and 4-star Tera Raids, and in The Indigo Disk in the Terarium's Coastal and Polar Biomes. It is unobtainable in Sword and Shield and Legends: Z-A.

### Diet

The Pokédex's Moon entry says its favourite food is Starmie, and Bulbapedia adds Staryu.

### Powers

Its Abilities are Swift Swim and Storm Drain, with Water Veil hidden. It strikes with Water Pulse, Whirlpool and U-turn, boosts itself with Aqua Ring and Tailwind and can learn Hydro Pump and Air Slash. Base Speed 91 and Special Defense 86 are its best stats.

### Name origin

Lumineon may combine 'luminous' and 'neon'. The Japanese name Neolant (ネオラント) may combine 'neon' and 'lantern'.

### Design inspiration

Lumineon's seafloor walking suggests a tripod fish, its glow a bioluminescent fish such as the marine hatchetfish, and its long, iridescent fins a Siamese fighting fish. These are fan readings, not official statements.

### Evolution notes

It evolves from Finneon at level 31.

### In the games

Lumineon first appeared in Diamond and Pearl, where it can be fished up with a Super Rod around Canalave City, Iron Island and several Sinnoh routes. It also appears in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and in Legends: Arceus's Cobalt Coastlands.

### In the anime

Lumineon made its series debut in 'Up Close and Personable!', where its glowing fins draw other Pokémon to it. Zoey's Finneon had turned into a Lumineon by the Sinnoh Grand Festival, where she used it in a Double Performance with her Gastrodon.

### Fun facts

- In Pokémon Adventures, Crasher Wake's Lumineon battles the young Palmer in a flashback.
- Bulbapedia lists Lumineon's first anime appearance as a minor one in the film 'The Rise of Darkrai', ahead of its series debut.
- In New Pokémon Snap you find it on the Lental Seafloor, where its Photodex entry has it sweeping sand aside to reveal hiding Starmie.
