# Munna

Dream Eater Pokémon · Psychic-type

![Munna official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/517.webp)

Munna is a [Psychic](https://pokee.si/types/psychic)-type Pokémon, the Dream Eater Pokémon, number 517 (#0517) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 5 and comes from the [Unova](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/unova) region. It is 0.6 m tall and weighs 23.3 kg.

Munna is the Dream Eater Pokémon, a floating pink dreamer that feeds on dreams from people and Pokémon alike. A pleasant dream makes pink mist, a nightmare makes black mist, and Munna will eat a nightmare away.

## How to pronounce Munna

Munna is pronounced **MOON-uh**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Munna is a pink, nearly round Pokémon, 0.6 m tall and 23.3 kg, with four tiny limbs and a tapered snout. A darker pink spot between its eyes is where its Dream Mist comes out. Purple five-petal flower markings light up softly while it feeds, and the Pokédex says it always floats in the air.

### Behaviour

Late at night, Munna appears beside people's pillows. The Pokédex says people whose dreams it eats forget what the dreams were about, and Bulbapedia says it will even eat dreams in its sleep.

### Habitat

Canon gives no natural habitat. In Black and White it lives in the Dreamyard, and in Sword and Shield it turns up in the Slumbering Weald and around the Wild Area. It is not in Scarlet and Violet, and in Legends: Z-A it is wild only in the Mega Dimension DLC's Hyperspace Lumiose.

### Diet

Dreams, of both people and Pokémon.

### Powers

Its Abilities are Forewarn and Synchronize, with Telepathy hidden. It learns Hypnosis, Psybeam, Moonlight, Calm Mind, Psychic and Moonblast, and at level 44 Dream Eater, a move that only works on sleeping Pokémon and heals the user by half the damage it deals. With base HP 76 but Speed 24, it is slow.

### Name origin

Munna may combine mu (夢, 'dream') with the Sanskrit anna ('food'), and could also play on 'luna', 'manna' and munya munya, the sound of mumbling in sleep. The Japanese name is Munna (ムンナ).

### Design inspiration

Atsuko Nishida designed Munna and Musharna. Bulbapedia suggests Munna resembles a koro, a traditional Japanese incense burner, often shaped like a pig and painted with flowers. Like Drowzee, it also seems to draw on the baku, a tapir-like dream-eating creature. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Munna evolves into Musharna when a Moon Stone is used on it.

### In the games

Munna has a leading role in the story of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, and it made its core-series debut in Black and White.

### In the anime

Fennel's Munna debuted in 'Dreams by the Yard Full!' and helped her find her lost Musharna. In 'Archeops In The Modern World!' it joined Fennel and Musharna in bringing a Plume Fossil back to life as an Archen.

### Fun facts

- The 2023 Pokémon World Championships broadcasts ran a feature on mispronounced Pokémon names, and it gave 'MOON-nuh' as the right way to say Munna.
- Bulbapedia points out that a Picnicker on Route 10 in the Kanto games wishes for pink Pokémon with floral patterns, years before Munna existed.
- Bulbapedia says Munna and Musharna are believed to share ancestors with Drowzee.
- Munna is the star of the first promotional C-Gear skin: in Japan the skin came built in, while other regions needed a password.
