# Musharna

Drowsing Pokémon · Psychic-type

![Musharna official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/518.webp)

Musharna is a [Psychic](https://pokee.si/types/psychic)-type Pokémon, the Drowsing Pokémon, number 518 (#0518) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 5 and comes from the [Unova](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/unova) region. It is 1.1 m tall and weighs 60.5 kg.

Musharna is the Drowsing Pokémon, a tapir-like dozer whose forehead mist carries the dreams it has eaten. The mist can take the shape of things from those dreams, and the Pokédex warns you off when it turns dark.

## How to pronounce Musharna

Musharna is pronounced **moo-SHAR-nuh**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Musharna is 1.1 m tall and 60.5 kg, a round-bodied biped with a light purple body, a pale pink head and a short, tapir-like trunk. Its eyes are usually closed. Dream Mist seeps from a mark on its forehead, most often pink, and the Pokédex says its colour changes with the dreams eaten.

### Behaviour

Musharna drowses and dreams all the time, even with its eyes open. The Pokédex says to leave it alone if it has just woken, because it is a terrible grump when freshly roused. It also warns people not to get close when the mist is dark.

### Habitat

Canon gives no natural habitat. In Black and White it lives in the Dreamyard, and in Sword and Shield around the Wild Area. It is not in Scarlet and Violet, and in Legends: Z-A it is wild only in the Mega Dimension DLC's Hyperspace Lumiose.

### Diet

Dreams, of both people and Pokémon.

### Powers

Its Abilities are Forewarn and Synchronize, with Telepathy hidden. It has Psychic, Moonblast, Dream Eater, Calm Mind and Future Sight, and in Sword and Shield it also learns Psychic Terrain. With base HP 116 and Special Attack 107 but Speed 29, it is a slow, bulky special attacker.

### Name origin

Musharna may combine mu (夢, 'dream'), mushamusha (a word for devouring) and the Sanskrit prāṇa ('breath'), with possible hints of 'luna' and 'manna'. The Japanese name is Musharna (ムシャーナ).

### Design inspiration

Atsuko Nishida designed Musharna and Munna, and Musharna came first. It is based on a tapir, and like Drowzee seems to draw on the baku, a tapir-like dream-eating creature. Bulbapedia also notes that its curled-up shape resembles an unborn baby, and the purple part of its body looks like baby pyjamas. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Musharna evolves from Munna when a Moon Stone is used on it, and it does not evolve further.

### In the games

In Black and White, where Musharna debuted, the one in the Dreamyard basement always has its hidden Ability, Telepathy, and respawns every week.

### In the anime

Fennel's Musharna debuted in 'Dreams by the Yard Full!', where researchers hoped to use its Dream Mist as a clean energy source until corrupted mist overloaded the Dreamyard facility. In 'Archeops In The Modern World!', its mist helped revive a fossil Archen.

### Fun facts

- It was designed before the Dream World feature existed, and was linked to the feature afterwards because the two fitted together so easily.
- The Dream Ball's design is similar to Musharna's.
- It shares its Drowsing Pokémon category with Komala.
- In Pokémon Adventures, Black's Munna, Musha, turns out to have become a Musharna in the chapter 'True Friends'.
