Ralts is a [Psychic](https://pokee.si/types/psychic)/[Fairy](https://pokee.si/types/fairy)-type Pokémon, the Feeling Pokémon, number 280 (#0280) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 3 and comes from the [Hoenn](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/hoenn) region. It is 0.4 m tall and weighs 6.6 kg.

Ralts is the Feeling Pokémon, so tuned in to other people's emotions that its body warms when it picks up warm feelings, and it hides at the first sign of hostility.

## Lore

### Biology

Ralts is a small white humanoid, 0.4 m tall and 6.6 kg, with thin limbs that widen towards the feet and a wispy trail behind them that gives the impression of a nightgown. Green hair like a bowl cut hides most of its face, though pinkish-red eyes sometimes show. Its two flat red horns, one big at the front and one smaller behind, are what it uses to sense feelings.

### Behaviour

Ralts rarely shows itself to people, but it draws closer when it senses a positive disposition. If its Trainer is cheerful, Ralts grows cheerful too. The Legends: Arceus Pokédex says it prefers chipper people to gloomy ones, yet shows no discrimination by age or gender.

### Habitat

Urban areas, according to the Pokédex. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in South Province (Area One) and across Kitakami, and in Legends: Z-A in five of Lumiose's districts: Bleu, Jaune, Magenta, Rouge and Vert.

### Powers

Ralts has Synchronize or Trace, with Telepathy hidden. It starts with Growl and Disarming Voice, then learns Confusion at level 6, Hypnosis, Draining Kiss and Teleport. Base HP 28 and Special Attack 45 make it frail, so it is a Pokémon to raise rather than rely on.

### Name origin

Ralts could be a partial anagram of 'astral body', for its Psychic powers, and may also nod to 'waltz', for its dancer-like evolutions. The Japanese name is also Ralts (ラルトス).

### Design inspiration

Ralts appears to draw on a shy young child and the idea of empathy; hair hiding the eyes is a common way to show a sensitive character. Its red horns resemble two halves of a heart, and the family resembles the elves of folklore, which may relate to its Fairy type. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Ralts evolves into Kirlia at level 20.

### In the games

Ralts first appeared in Hoenn in Ruby and Sapphire, and also appears in Legends: Arceus, where its Pokédex entry says it needs more research.

### In the anime

Ralts debuted in 'Do I Hear a Ralts?', where Max found it very sick and, with Snorunt's help, hurried it to a Pokémon Center, promising to return once he became a Trainer.

### Fun facts

- Bulbapedia notes that no other Pokémon shares Ralts's base stat total of 198, which is also the lowest of any Psychic type.
- In the Hoenn games, Wally catches a level 5 Ralts on Route 102, yet Bulbapedia says the player cannot catch a level 5 Ralts at all, except through the DexNav in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
- Ralts's sprite in Trozei! is the only one that shows its eyes, Bulbapedia says.
- In 'Do I Hear a Ralts?', Ralts launched Jessie and Meowth away for posing as Gardevoir and Kirlia.
