Rock Peak Pokémon · Rock-type

![Regirock official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/377.webp)

Regirock is a [Rock](https://pokee.si/types/rock)-type Pokémon, the Rock Peak Pokémon, number 377 (#0377) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 3 and comes from the [Hoenn](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/hoenn) region. It is 1.7 m tall and weighs 230 kg.

Regirock is the Rock Peak Pokémon, a stone golem that mends itself with rocks picked up from all over the world. Scientists who studied it found no brain and no heart, and the Pokédex says people sealed it away long ago.

## How to pronounce Regirock

Regirock is pronounced **REJ-ee-rok**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Regirock is 1.7 m tall and 230 kg, a golem of beige and orange rocks with long arms, club-like hands and a row of orange spines down its back. Seven orange dots on its face form a pattern like a capital H. The Pokédex says its whole body is stone, and that the rocks making it up match stone dug from layers of ground all over the world. When pieces chip off in battle, it sticks on new rocks to repair itself.

### Behaviour

Regirock is more mystery than personality: FireRed and LeafGreen say even modern scientists cannot explain it. Bulbapedia's summary of the legend says Regigigas made it from rocks, that people once worshipped it, and that they later feared its power and sealed it away.

### Habitat

The species data lists caves. Bulbapedia places its seal in the Desert Ruins in Hoenn and in the Rock Peak Ruins in Galar's Crown Tundra. In Scarlet and Violet it can only arrive through Pokémon HOME or events, and Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.

### Powers

Regirock has the Ability Clear Body, with Sturdy as its hidden Ability. Its base Defense of 200 is the highest of any Pokémon introduced in Generation III (not counting Mega Evolutions), and it backs that wall with Stone Edge, Rock Slide, Hammer Arm and the self-destructing Explosion. Stealth Rock and Iron Defense help it dig in, but its base Special Attack is only 50, so it relies on physical moves.

### Name origin

Regirock may combine the Latin regis ('royal') with 'rock'. The Japanese name is Regirock (レジロック).

### Design inspiration

Regirock may draw on Hebrew legends of golems, servants of higher powers that were said to carry writing on their heads and to weaken when it was removed. Its seven dots may be Braille, which the games make you use to reach the giants for the first time, and the five legendary giants may stand for historical ages, with Regirock as the Stone Age. These are fan readings.

### In the games

Regirock is one of the Legendary giants in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, where only one can be caught. In Emerald, the Pyramid King Brandon fields one in his Silver Symbol challenge. In Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness it is the boss of the Rock Chamber in Aegis Cave.

### In the anime

Regirock debuted in the film 'Lucario and the Mystery of Mew', guarding the Tree of Beginning with Regice and Registeel, and it struck at Ash first. Brandon's Regirock debuted in the series in 'Battling the Enemy Within!', where it defeated Sceptile.

### Fun facts

- Its in-game footprint resembles a Scarabaeus sacer, the scarab beetle that ancient Egyptians held sacred.
- Bulbapedia says Regirock was the first Legendary Pokémon to appear in the anime as a Trainer's caught Pokémon.
- Its Attack and Special Attack, and its Defense and Special Defense, are the mirror image of Regice's.
- In the opening sequence of 'The Rise of Darkrai', the three giants fire Hyper Beams that merge into one.
