# Rellor

Rellor is a [Bug](https://pokee.si/types/bug)-type Pokémon, the Rolling Pokémon, number 953 (#0953) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 9 and comes from the [Paldea](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/paldea) region. It is 0.2 m tall and weighs 1 kg.

Rellor is the Rolling Pokémon, a small beetle that spends its days rolling a ball of mud mixed with psychic energy, which the Pokédex says it treasures more than its own life. It evolves simply by going for a long walk with you.

## Lore

### Biology

Rellor is a small brown beetle, 0.2 m tall and 1 kg, with four horn-like bumps on its head, a pink face with lazy eyes and a maze-like pattern of beige stripes on its back. It almost always travels upside down, rolling a mud ball that it makes from sand and dirt blended with psychic power. Its sturdy back legs can hoist the ball above its body.

### Behaviour

Rellor is patient and single-minded. The Pokédex says it will never be parted from its mud ball and keeps pushing it along until the energy it needs for evolution has matured.

### Habitat

The Pokédex gives no habitat, but Serebii lists the Desert biome in Paldea. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in the West Province's Asado Desert and in 1-star Tera Raids, and The Indigo Disk adds it to the Savanna Biome.

### Powers

Compound Eyes makes its moves more accurate, and Shed Skin is its hidden Ability. Its attacks are humble: Tackle, Rollout, Mud Shot, Bug Bite and Dig, with Defense Curl to toughen up. As a first stage its base Defense of 60 and Special Defense of 58 are its best stats.

### Name origin

Rellor may be 'roller' spelled backwards. The Japanese name is Shigaroko (シガロコ), which may be a partial backwards spelling of funkorogashi, a colloquial word for a dung beetle.

### Design inspiration

Rellor seems modelled on a dung beetle. Turned upside down, the pattern on its abdomen looks like a cartoon pile of dung, which Bulbapedia reads as a wink at its origins. Rolling a mud ball instead may nod to the Japanese craft of polishing mud into a shiny sphere. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Rellor evolves into Rabsca when it levels up after you have walked 1,000 steps with it outside its Poké Ball using the Let's Go feature in Scarlet and Violet.

### In the games

Rellor is a Pokémon you evolve by walking with it in Scarlet and Violet, where it debuted. Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.

### In the anime

Rellor debuted in the Horizons episode 'Taking the Next Steps' as a wild Pokémon.

### Fun facts

- Its German name, Relluk, is Kuller, a word for a marble, spelled backwards.
- In French it is Léboulérou, apparently built from roulé-boulé (a roll) and possibly boue (mud).
- It ties with one other Pokémon as the lightest Bug type of Generation IX.
- Breeding can give it Cosmic Power, Memento, Recover and Weather Ball, odd tools for a beetle that starts with Tackle.
