![Remoraid official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/223.webp)

Remoraid is a [Water](https://pokee.si/types/water)-type Pokémon, the Jet Pokémon, number 223 (#0223) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 2 and comes from the [Johto](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/johto) region. It is 0.6 m tall and weighs 12 kg.

Remoraid is the Jet Pokémon, a fish shaped like a revolver that spits water with sniper accuracy. The Pokédex says its jet reaches moving prey over 100 m (300 ft) away, and one entry nicknames it the 'sniper of the seas'.

## How to pronounce Remoraid

## Lore

### Biology

Remoraid is a light blue fish with saucer-like eyes, a mouth of four pointed teeth and mostly white fins. It is 0.6 m (2 ft) long and weighs 12 kg (26.5 lb). It sucks in water and forces it out using its abdominal muscles, and its dorsal fin works as a suction pad for clinging on.

### Behaviour

Remoraid travels in big groups or clamps on to a Mantine, scavenging its leftovers and fighting alongside it if it is attacked. The Crystal entry says it can escape an attacker by firing water from its mouth and swimming backwards on the recoil.

### Habitat

The Pokédex lists it as a Sea Pokémon, and Bulbapedia says it also moves down rivers when evolution is near. It is not available in Scarlet and Violet or Legends: Z-A.

### Diet

It scavenges leftovers from Mantine and shoots flying prey out of the air; the Legends: Arceus Pokédex says it knocks Burmy off the branches they hang from.

### Powers

Hustle boosts its physical attacks at the cost of accuracy, Sniper makes its critical hits stronger, and Moody, its hidden Ability, raises one stat sharply and lowers another every turn. It learns Water Gun, Bubble Beam, Aurora Beam, Lock-On and Hydro Pump.

### Name origin

Remoraid may combine 'remora' with 'raid' (a rapid attack). The Japanese name is Teppouo (テッポウオ), from teppō (鉄砲, 'gun') and uo (魚, 'fish'), which together form the word for archerfish.

### Design inspiration

The name and its link to Mantine suggest the remora, while its water-shooting recalls the archerfish and its fins resemble parts of a revolver: two dark back stripes like a barrel, a pelvic fin like a trigger and a dorsal fin like a front sight. Bulbapedia says its Spaceworld '97 demo design looked even more gun-like. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Remoraid evolves into Octillery at level 25. A Remoraid in your party also lets a levelling Mantyke become Mantine, but the Remoraid itself stays unchanged.

### In the games

In Gold and Silver, where Remoraid debuted, you can fish one up on Route 44 with a Super Rod. In Legends: Arceus it lives along the Cobalt Coastlands.

### In the anime

A multitude of Remoraid live on Remoraid Mountain in 'The Light Fantastic'. In 'Mantine Overboard!', several make their home in a shipwreck protected by a Mantine.

### Fun facts

- Bulbapedia compares Remoraid with Qwilfish: Remoraid is exclusive to LeafGreen and Qwilfish to FireRed, each found in the same places in its version.
- In 'Lights, Camerupt, Action!', Elijah's Western film uses a Remoraid as its prop gun.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Gold uses a swarm of Remoraid to power his Mantine for flying around.
