Hoodlum Pokémon · Dark/Fighting-type

![Scrafty official artwork](https://pokee.si/img/art/560.webp)

Scrafty is a [Dark](https://pokee.si/types/dark)/[Fighting](https://pokee.si/types/fighting)-type Pokémon, the Hoodlum Pokémon, number 560 (#0560) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 5 and comes from the [Unova](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/unova) region. It is 1.1 m tall and weighs 30 kg.

Scrafty is the Hoodlum Pokémon, a Dark and Fighting type with a permanent sneer and a mean kick. Behind the swagger, the Pokédex says it looks after its family, friends and turf.

## How to pronounce Scrafty

Scrafty is pronounced **SKRAF-tee**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

In Japanese it is ズルズキン (Zuruzukin).

## Lore

### Biology

Scrafty is a bipedal lizard with an orange body, a grey scaly belly and a red crest like a mohawk. Baggy yellow skin hangs from its shoulders and waist like trousers, and in the anime it pulls the skin over its head like a hood. It is 1.1 m tall and weighs 30 kg. The Pokédex says each can spit acidic liquid, and that it pulls its shed skin up to protect itself while it kicks.

### Behaviour

Scrafty lives in groups, and the Pokédex says a group beats up anything that enters its territory, with the biggest crest marking the leader. It stays within one territory all its life, and Bulbapedia notes that it is often described as rude.

### Habitat

The Pokédex names no habitat, only a territory it never leaves. In Scarlet and Violet it is absent from Paldea but appears in The Indigo Disk's Canyon Biome and in 4-star Tera Raid Battles. In Legends: Z-A it is found in Wild Zone 20 and several Lumiose districts, with more in Hyperspace Lumiose in the Mega Dimension DLC.

### Powers

Scrafty has Shed Skin and Moxie, with Intimidate hidden. It kicks with High Jump Kick, backed by Brick Break and Crunch. Mega Scrafty, introduced in Legends: Z-A and triggered by Scraftinite, turns its shed skin pure white, tougher and more supple, and wears it as a hoodie with its crest poking out like a ponytail. Its Attack rises to 130 and its Defense and Special Defense to 135.

### Name origin

Scrafty may combine 'scrappy', 'scruffy' or 'scraggy' with 'crafty'. The Japanese name is Zuruzukin (ズルズキン), which may blend zuru ('sly') with zukin ('hood').

### Design inspiration

Scrafty appears to be a lizard shedding its skin. Bulbapedia reads the baggy trousers and hood as hip hop streetwear, the red crest as a punk mohawk, and the hood as a balaclava too. Mega Scrafty's white skin might allude to photos of leopard geckos shedding all at once. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Scraggy becomes Scrafty at level 39, and Scrafty is the end of the line.

### In the games

Mega Scrafty was one of the new Mega Evolutions in Legends: Z-A. The species debuted in Black and White, where you get one only by evolving Scraggy; Black 2 and White 2 added wild ones on Routes 15 and 18.

### In the anime

Scrafty debuted in 'Meowth's Scrafty Tactics!' after a wild Mandibuzz kicked it out of its den. When wild Pokémon refused to help, it kidnapped Iris's Axew and held him to ransom, and Ash's Scraggy later used High Jump Kick, learned from Scrafty, to win the den back.

### Fun facts

- Mega Scrafty's base stat total of 588 is unique among all Pokémon and forms.
- The Sword Pokédex says even its half-hearted-looking kicks can shatter the concrete pillars Conkeldurr carries.
- Earlier Pokédex entries say a bigger crest earns more respect, but the Legends: Z-A entry says a bigger crest makes Scrafty act more arrogantly.
