Shiinotic is a [Grass](https://pokee.si/types/grass)/[Fairy](https://pokee.si/types/fairy)-type Pokémon, the Illuminating Pokémon, number 756 (#0756) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 7 and comes from the [Alola](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/alola) region. It is 1 m tall and weighs 11.5 kg.

Shiinotic is the Illuminating Pokémon, a glowing mushroom that lures travellers deep into dark forests with its lights and puts them to sleep. The Pokédex warns you to keep away from any light you spot deep in a forest after dark.

## Lore

### Biology

Shiinotic is a slim white Grass and Fairy type, 1.0 m tall and 11.5 kg, topped by a big purple mushroom cap. The cap has a frilly pink edge, light green bumps on top and a glowing light green underside with gills. Each of its long thin arms ends in three light green filaments. The Pokédex says its flickering spores cause drowsiness.

### Behaviour

Shiinotic lives in dark forests, where its strange lights confuse people so that they lose their way. The Pokédex says it drains energy from sleeping prey through the tips of its arms, and Bulbapedia adds that it can also send energy to anyone it likes. It fights Parasect for territory, and the Pokédex says the battles leave the area coated in spores.

### Habitat

The Pokédex says it lives in dark forests. In Sun and Moon you get one by evolving Morelull, and in Sword and Shield it appears around Glimwood Tangle. It is not available in Scarlet and Violet or Legends: Z-A.

### Powers

Its Ability can be Illuminate or Effect Spore, with Rain Dish hidden. It learns Spore and Moonblast, and drains health with Giga Drain and Strength Sap. Special Attack of 90 and Special Defense of 100 make it a sturdy special attacker, but its Speed of 30 is low.

### Name origin

Shiinotic may combine 'shiitake', 'shine' and 'hypnotic'. The Japanese name is Mashade (マシェード), which may blend 'mushroom' and 'shade', as in lampshade.

### Design inspiration

Shiinotic may draw on glowing mushrooms such as Mycena, and its sac and wide warty cap are traits of the Amanita family. Bulbapedia also suggests a bedside lamp, a will-o'-the-wisp, or a grey alien with a U.F.O.-shaped cap. These are fan readings, not official statements.

### Evolution notes

Shiinotic evolves from Morelull at level 24.

### In the games

Shiinotic is a trial Pokémon in Lush Jungle in Moon, with Parasect taking that role in Sun; both games are its debut. It is also found in Sword and Shield, but it is not available in Scarlet and Violet or Legends: Z-A.

### In the anime

A group of freshly evolved Shiinotic debuted in 'Lulled to La-La Land!'. One lights Oranguru's hideout in 'Mallow and the Forest Teacher!', and another meets Gladion and his Umbreon in 'Chasing Memories, Creating Dreams!'.

### Fun facts

- Scarlet and Violet's internal data flags Shiinotic as Mythical rather than Marshadow, probably a typo between their internal names.
- Shiinotic is a counterpart to Parasect: both are fungus Pokémon with a base stat total of 405 and identical base HP and Speed.
- Morelull can learn Sunny Day by TM in Sun and Moon, but Shiinotic cannot.
