Silcoon is a [Bug](https://pokee.si/types/bug)-type Pokémon, the Cocoon Pokémon, number 266 (#0266) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 3 and comes from the [Hoenn](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/hoenn) region. It is 0.6 m tall and weighs 10 kg.

Silcoon is the Cocoon Pokémon, a pupa wrapped in white silk that hangs from a branch, barely moving, while it stores up energy to become a Beautifly. It is always on guard: its eyes watch the surroundings through two small holes.

## How to pronounce Silcoon

Silcoon is pronounced **sil-KOON**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Silcoon is wrapped almost entirely in white silk, leaving only two small holes through which its red eyes peek out from behind a ragged fringe. It is 0.6 m tall and weighs 10 kg. The silk hardens into a cocoon that repels attacks, and since Silcoon cannot extend its limbs it moves only slowly.

### Behaviour

Silcoon anchors itself to a tree branch with silk, then hangs motionless, moving as little as possible to conserve the energy it stored as a Wurmple for its evolution.

### Habitat

The Pokédex habitat is Forest. In Ruby and Sapphire it is found in Petalburg Woods.

### Diet

It drinks the dew and rainwater that collect on its silk.

### Powers

Silcoon's only move is Harden, which raises its Defense, and its only Ability is Shed Skin, which gives a 33% chance each turn of curing a status condition. With 55 base Defense it is a defensive waiting stage.

### Name origin

Silcoon may combine 'silk' and 'cocoon'. The Japanese name is Karasalis (カラサリス), possibly from kara ('shell') and 'chrysalis'.

### Design inspiration

Its white colour suggests a silkworm cocoon.

### Evolution notes

Silcoon evolves into Beautifly at level 10. Its twin Cascoon, the other branch from Wurmple, matches it in type, base stats and moves.

### In the games

In Legends: Arceus Silcoon appears in the Obsidian Fieldlands, including an Alpha at Horseshoe Plains, and in mass outbreaks; it debuted in Ruby and Sapphire. Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Scarlet and Violet and Legends: Z-A.

### In the anime

Silcoon debuted in 'A Corphish Out of Water', when May's Wurmple evolved into one. In 'Goodbye, Friend!', Ash and Goh watch many Silcoon evolve into Beautifly.

### Fun facts

- Silcoon is drawn without limb protrusions in the core games since X and Y, yet Bulbapedia says Pokémon HOME reveals that its limbs can pop out of the silk, despite the Pokédex saying it cannot extend them.
- Its 205 base total is the lowest of any evolved Pokémon in the game data, shared with Cascoon, Metapod and Kakuna.
- A Silcoon surrounds May and her Torchic in the animated trailer for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, until Torchic scares it away with a Fire attack.
