# Sirfetch'd

Sirfetch'd is a [Fighting](https://pokee.si/types/fighting)-type Pokémon, the Wild Duck Pokémon, number 865 (#0865) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 8 and comes from the [Galar](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/galar) region. It is 0.8 m tall and weighs 117 kg.

Sirfetch'd is the Wild Duck Pokémon, a knightly Fighting type that fights with a giant leek, using the stalk as a lance and the leaves as a shield. Only a Farfetch'd that has survived many battles can become one.

## Lore

### Biology

Sirfetch'd is a white duck, 0.8 m tall and 117 kg, with the yellow beak, black eyebrow mark and three-feather crest of Farfetch'd. Its wings work as hands, with feather fingers. Its massive leek comes in two parts: the sharpened stalk is its lance and the hard leaves are its shield.

### Behaviour

Sirfetch'd is calm and collected and prefers to fight fairly. A famous Galar painting shows one duelling an Escavalier. It treasures its leek like life itself, the Pokédex says, and retires from battle for good once the leek withers.

### Habitat

Bulbapedia gives no habitat. In Sword it appears in Max Raid Battles, and in Legends: Z-A it comes by trade, with the Mega Dimension DLC letting you evolve a Galarian Farfetch'd.

### Diet

The Shield Pokédex says the leek is both its weapon and its food.

### Powers

Its Abilities are Steadfast and Scrappy (hidden). It fights with Brave Bird, Leaf Blade and Swords Dance, and Bulbapedia says it is the only known Pokémon that can learn Meteor Assault. Base Attack 135 is the highest of any Fighting type introduced in Generation VIII, though its Speed of 65 is modest.

### Name origin

Sirfetch'd is 'Sir' plus 'Farfetch'd'. The Japanese name is Negigaknight (ネギガナイト), possibly negi ('spring onion'), the prefix giga- and 'knight', and perhaps a pun on 'negi ga nai to', meaning 'must have a spring onion'.

### Design inspiration

Bulbapedia says the idea began with the fact that British leeks are much bigger than Japanese ones, and the two halves of its leek are modelled on a shield and a sword or lance. It may be based on a knight, perhaps Sir Lancelot, the White Knight, and the leek is also a national symbol of Wales. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Sirfetch'd evolves from Galarian Farfetch'd only, after the Farfetch'd lands three critical hits in one battle.

### In the games

Gym Leader Bea uses one in Sword, at Stow-on-Side Stadium and in the Champion Cup Finals. It debuted in Sword and Shield.

### In the anime

Ash met a Galarian Farfetch'd in 'Toughing It Out!' and it joined him after he beat it in battle. In 'Beyond Chivalry… Aiming to be a Leek Master!' it evolved into Sirfetch'd in a battle against Rinto and his Gallade.

### Fun facts

- Sirfetch'd was teased on 13 September 2019 as a pixelated, rotated and flipped image on the Sword and Shield website.
- Only Farfetch'd and Sirfetch'd have an apostrophe in their names, which trips up Pokémon HOME: ones arriving without nicknames from Pokémon Bank or Pokémon GO behave as though they had been nicknamed.
- Shigeru Ohmori told Eurogamer that Sirfetch'd is not based on Farfetch'd's scrapped evolution from the Spaceworld '97 demo, but is a fresh design for a UK-inspired region.
