It was introduced in Generation 4 and comes from the [Sinnoh](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/sinnoh) region. It is 1 m tall and weighs 38 kg.

Skuntank is the Skunk Pokémon, a Poison and Dark type whose tail tip can open to fire a stinking fluid over 50 m (160 ft), the Pokédex says.

## Lore

### Biology

Skuntank is 1 m tall and 38 kg, with spiky purple fur, tan stripes, a bigger nose than Stunky and a huge striped tail arching over its back. Unlike Stunky it fires from the tip of that tail, which can open. The Pokédex says the smell worsens the longer the fluid festers in its belly, and that it varies with Skuntank's diet.

### Behaviour

Skuntank digs holes in the ground for its nest, the Pokédex says. One entry says attacks from above confound it, and another says the smell fades after a few squirts.

### Habitat

Bulbapedia says Skuntank nests among large, prickly bushes in thick woodland. In Scarlet it lives around Casseroya Lake; Serebii says Violet players must trade for it. It is not in Legends: Z-A.

### Diet

The Pokédex says Skuntank brings prey down with its poisonous spray, though it sometimes cannot stomach the stench and leaves the beaten prey uneaten.

### Powers

Its Abilities are Stench and Aftermath, with Keen Eye hidden. Poison Gas, Sucker Punch, Night Slash, Belch and Explosion make up its attacks. With 103 base HP and 93 Attack it is a sturdy, hard-hitting Poison type.

### Name origin

Skuntank may combine 'skunk', 'stank' (the past tense of stink) and 'tank'. The Japanese name is Skutank (スカタンク).

### Design inspiration

Bulbapedia reads Skuntank as part hog-nosed skunk and part tank, with its fearsome stink also recalling the honey badger. Its stylised tail resembles a pompadour hairstyle.

### Evolution notes

Skuntank evolves from Stunky at level 34.

### In the games

Skuntank is Team Galactic Commander Jupiter's Pokémon in Diamond and Pearl, and the leader of a band of thieves in Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky. It also roams Legends: Arceus.

### In the anime

Jupiter's Skuntank, her main Pokémon, debuted in 'Double Team Turnover!', guarded Looker in 'Unlocking the Red Chain of Events!' and fell to Cynthia's Garchomp in 'The Battle Finale of Legend!'. Jeremiah's Skuntank used Stench to smoke Team Rocket out of a shed in 'Sliding Into Seventh!'.

### Fun facts

- Skuntank learns the Fire move Flamethrower the moment it evolves, which Bulbapedia suggests may nod to the tank in its name.
- In the Pokémon Evolutions episode 'The Rival', Jupiter's Skuntank beat Barry's Prinplup at Lake Acuity with Smokescreen, then lost the rematch at Spear Pillar to his Empoleon.
- In Pokémon Adventures, a gang of Team Galactic grunts sends an army of Skuntank and Staravia into Veilstone City.
