Skwovet is a [Normal](https://pokee.si/types/normal)-type Pokémon, the Cheeky Pokémon, number 819 (#0819) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 8 and comes from the [Galar](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/galar) region. It is 0.3 m tall and weighs 2.5 kg.

Skwovet is the Cheeky Pokémon, a squirrel so anxious about going hungry that it never stops stuffing berries into its cheeks and tail. The Pokédex says the nonstop eating has made it tougher than it looks.

## How to pronounce Skwovet

Skwovet is pronounced **SKWOV-et**. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

## Lore

### Biology

Skwovet is a small grey-brown squirrel with a big fluffy tail, orange freckles under each eye and an orange nose. It is 0.3 m tall and weighs 2.5 kg. Its cheeks stretch to many times their normal volume, and Bulbapedia says extra food goes into its tail fur.

### Behaviour

No matter how much it eats, Skwovet is always worried about getting hungry again, and the Pokédex says it grows anxious whenever its cheeks hold no berries. It turns up on farms looking for more berries. Bulbapedia adds that it spits seeds into rich soil, which grows new Berry trees.

### Habitat

The Pokédex says it is found throughout Galar. In Scarlet and Violet it lives in Paldea's South Province and in Kitakami, and it is unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.

### Diet

Berries, eaten nonstop. The Scarlet Pokédex says that when none can be found it stuffs pebbles into its cheeks instead to stave off the cravings.

### Powers

Cheek Pouch heals Skwovet whenever it eats a Berry, on top of the Berry's own effect, and the hidden Ability Gluttony makes it eat a held Berry sooner, at half health. It learns Stuff Cheeks at level 10; Bulbapedia says no other Pokémon is known to learn that move by levelling up apart from it and Greedent. With 70 base HP but only 25 Speed it is sturdy and slow.

### Name origin

Skwovet seems to blend 'squirrel' and 'covet'. The Japanese name is Hoshigarisu (ホシガリス), from hoshigaru ('to want') and risu ('squirrel').

### Design inspiration

Skwovet appears to be based on the Eastern grey squirrel, a non-native species in Great Britain, and its Shiny colouring may nod to the Eurasian red squirrel, which is endangered there. These are fan readings.

### Evolution notes

Skwovet evolves into Greedent at level 24.

### In the games

Skwovet is among the Pokémon that try to gobble your Berries in the Ogre Oustin' mini-game in Scarlet and Violet, having first appeared in Sword and Shield. Bulbapedia also lists a Pokédex entry for it in Pokémon Pokopia.

### In the anime

Skwovet debuted in 'The Climb to Be the Very Best!', where Ash's scones lured it in before Goh caught it. It later evolved into Greedent in 'Crowning the Chow Crusher!'.

### Fun facts

- It is both the lightest and the shortest of the Normal types introduced in Generation VIII.
- Its Chinese name, Tānxīnlìshǔ, simply means 'greedy squirrel', and its German name Raffel is built from raffgierig (grasping) or raffen (to grab).
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga Arven saves a Skwovet from a Titan Dondozo with a Quick Ball, and out of gratitude it asks to stay on his team.
