Stonjourner is a [Rock](https://pokee.si/types/rock)-type Pokémon, the Big Rock Pokémon, number 874 (#0874) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 8 and comes from the [Galar](https://pokee.si/guide/regions/galar) region. It is 2.5 m tall and weighs 520 kg.

Stonjourner is the Big Rock Pokémon, a walking stone monument. The Pokédex says that once a year, on a set date at a set time, Stonjourner turn up from nowhere and form a circle, and nobody knows why.

## Lore

### Biology

Stonjourner is 2.5 m tall and weighs 520 kg, and it looks like Stonehenge on legs: a grey, blocky body with white eyes and a white mouth, two smaller stones on top like a hat, and arms of chained square rocks. The Pokédex says each rock leg weighs over 200 kg (400 lb), and that its rock matches the bedrock of a land far from where it lives.

### Behaviour

Most of the time Stonjourner stands in a grassy field watching the sun move from noon to sunset, and it prefers a quiet life. Now and then it bursts into speed to deliver dynamic kicks. Bulbapedia notes the yearly ring has sparked many theories.

### Habitat

The Pokédex says it stands in grasslands. In Scarlet and Violet it lives in the Asado Desert in Scarlet, while Violet players have to trade for it.

### Powers

Its only Ability is Power Spot, which powers up the moves of Pokémon next to it, and Bulbapedia says no other Pokémon can have it. It sets Stealth Rock and hits with Rock Slide, Stone Edge and Heavy Slam. With base Attack of 125 and Defense of 135 it is built as a heavy physical hitter and tank.

### Name origin

Stonjourner may combine 'stone' and 'sojourner', a temporary resident. The Japanese name is Ishihengin (イシヘンジン), which may mix ishi ('stone'), Stonehenge and henjin ('eccentric person').

### Design inspiration

Stonjourner appears to be based on megaliths such as a trilithon or dolmen, especially Stonehenge in Wiltshire, England, whose link to astronomy may explain its sun-watching and yearly gatherings. Its Scarlet entry may nod to Stonehenge's bluestones, brought from Wales. These are fan readings.

### In the games

Circhester's Rock-type Gym Leader Gordie uses a Stonjourner in Sword, the only one of the Sword and Shield pair where it is wild. In Scarlet and Violet it is again wild in just one version, Scarlet, and it is not available in Legends: Z-A.

### In the anime

Jessie pulled a Stonjourner out of the Rocket Prize Master in 'Just a Scone's Throw From Here!', and Goh's Cinderace beat it.

### Fun facts

- Bulbapedia says Stonjourner and Morpeko made history as the earliest Dynamax Pokémon on trading cards, both as VMAX cards in the Sword & Shield set.
- Its base Special Defense of 20 ties it with Caterpie, Weedle, Magikarp, Igglybuff, Carvanha and Attack Forme Deoxys for the lowest of any Pokémon.
- At the 2026 Latin America International Championships, a challenge on commonly mispronounced names gave 'STONE-jar-nar' as the way to say it.
