Lore

Biology

Accelgor has a large pink, helmet-like head curled over at the back, with green stripes running from its eyes, a black star-shaped marking at the front and eyes hidden in a shadowy crevice. It is 0.8 m tall and 25.3 kg. The rest of its body is wrapped in a blue, cloth-like membrane with ribbon-like extensions on its back, and its crossed arms give it an aggressive look.

Behaviour

With its shell gone, Accelgor is light enough to fight with ninja-like movements. The Pokédex says it weakens if its body dries out, which is why it keeps the membrane wrapped around itself. Bulbapedia says its pouting expression comes from misery over losing its shell.

Habitat

Bulbapedia says Accelgor lives in moist places such as bogs and swamps, like the Shelmet it evolves from.

Powers

Accelgor's Abilities are Hydration and Sticky Hold, with Unburden hidden, which doubles its Speed once it uses up or loses a held item. Water Shuriken, known from level 1, suits its ninja style, and it also uses Acid Spray, U-turn, Bug Buzz and Giga Drain. Its base Speed of 145 and Special Attack of 100 make it a fast, frail attacker with just 40 Defence.

Name origin

Accelgor combines 'accelerate' with 'escargot', French for snail. The Japanese name is Agilder (アギルダー), possibly from 'agile' and 'rider'.

Design inspiration

Accelgor seems to mix an auto racer or a ninja with a slug, snail or giant tube worm, and its cloth-like membrane may echo the wraps ninja wear in fiction. These are fan readings, not official statements.

Evolution notes

Accelgor comes from Shelmet through a trade for Karrablast, and it has no further evolution.

In the games

Accelgor first appeared in Black and White, as an evolved Shelmet. It was catchable in Sword and Shield and the Expansion Pass, but it is not available in Scarlet and Violet or Legends: Z-A.

In the anime

Charles's Accelgor debuted in 'The Mighty Accelguard to the Rescue!', where it beat the crook Cryogonal Man's Vanillish during an attempted robbery of the Cold Storage.
