Lore
Biology
Dedenne is a round, orange, rodent-like biped, 0.2 m tall and 2.2 kg, with big black ears, a prominent upper tooth and a circular electric sac on each cheek. Its upper whiskers branch like antennae and send and receive electrical waves, while the plain lower whiskers are organs that fire electricity. A tuft of fur sits on the tip of its long, thin tail.
Behaviour
Dedenne cannot make much electricity on its own, so the Pokédex says it takes it from outlets, power plants and other electric Pokémon. It therefore tends to live near people, and Dedenne use their whiskers to tell each other where food or electricity can be found. When its charge runs low, it curls up and sleeps.
Habitat
The Pokédex names no habitat, though Bulbapedia notes its electricity habit keeps it near humans. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in the North and West Provinces' Area Three, and in Legends: Z-A it appears across Lumiose City's districts and in Hyperspace Lumiose.
Powers
Dedenne has Cheek Pouch, which restores HP when it eats a Berry, or Pickup, with Plus hidden. It starts with Nuzzle and learns Thunderbolt, Discharge, Volt Switch and Play Rough. With a base Speed of 101 it is quick, though its other stats are modest.
Name origin
Dedenne may combine denki ('electricity'), yamane ('dormouse') and the French antenne ('antenna'). The Japanese name is the same, Dedenne (デデンネ).
Design inspiration
Bulbapedia reads Dedenne as a dormouse, with touches of gerbil and hamster, fused with a television aerial. Bulbapedia suggests its Fairy type may reference La Petite Souris, the French tooth fairy, a small mouse that swaps baby teeth for coins. These are fan readings.
In the games
In Super Mystery Dungeon, Dedenne belongs to the Expedition Society and relays signals between members' Expedition Gadgets. It debuted in X and Y, where it lives on Route 11 and in the Friend Safari.
In the anime
Clemont's Dedenne debuted in 'A Battle of Aerial Mobility!', when Clemont tried to catch it for Bonnie. After he caught it in 'A Shockingly Cheeky Friendship!', it spent most of its time outside its Poké Ball as Bonnie's unofficial partner.
