Lore
Biology
Dwebble is a small orange crab, 0.3 m tall and 14.5 kg, with big pincers, dark eyes on stalks and a hooked tail hidden under a chunk of grey rock. It squirts a corrosive liquid from its mouth to bore the hole it lives in, and the Black entry says it can melt holes in even hard rock. If the rock breaks, the White entry says it stays agitated until it finds a replacement.
Behaviour
Dwebble inspects rocks until one appeals to it, and the Pokédex lists Roggenrola and Rolycoly as its natural enemies. Bulbapedia says that in return for a home in a Hippowdon's ports, Dwebble clears out any stones stuck inside it, and the Hippowdon looks after it.
Habitat
The Pokédex names no habitat. In Black and White it lives on Route 18 and in the Desert Resort, and in Sword and Shield on the Rolling Fields, around Lake Axewell and Lake Miloch and in the Stony Wilderness. It is not available in Scarlet, Violet or Legends: Z-A.
Powers
Its Abilities are Sturdy and Shell Armor, with Weak Armor hidden, which trades Defense for Speed when it is hit by a physical move. It learns Rock Slide, Stealth Rock, X-Scissor and Rock Blast, and Shell Smash at level 44 and Rock Wrecker at level 48 are its big finishers. Its best stat is a base Defense of 85.
Name origin
Dwebble may combine 'dwell' or 'dwelling' and 'pebble'. The Japanese name is Ishizumai (イシズマイ), possibly from ishi ('stone') and sumai ('dwelling').
Design inspiration
Dwebble is modelled on a hermit crab, but one that lives in a hollowed-out rock instead of a discarded seashell.
Evolution notes
Dwebble evolves into Crustle at level 34.
In the games
In Pokémon: Magikarp Jump Dwebble can appear during training, where the 'Dwebble Push' session has your Magikarp push it to earn JP. It first appeared in Black and White.
In the anime
Three Dwebble debuted in 'A Home for Dwebble!', bullying another Dwebble and stealing its shell, and Cilan caught that Dwebble after helping it get the shell back. Burgh used a Dwebble in his Gym battle against Ash in 'Battling For The Love of Bug-Types!'.
