Flaaffy

Flaaffy is a Electric-type Pokémon, the Wool Pokémon, number 180 (#0180) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 2 and comes from the Johto region. It is 0.8 m tall and weighs 13.3 kg.
Flaaffy is the Wool Pokémon that stored so much electricity it went bald in patches, and the bare, rubbery skin underneath is what keeps it from shocking itself. It is the only Electric type that the Pokédex files as pink.

Lore
Biology
Flaaffy is a pink, two-legged sheep, 0.8 m tall and 13.3 kg, with a white mane of sideways curls, black-striped conical ears, stubby arms and a long striped tail tipped with a blue orb. The Pokédex says its fleece changed so that it makes strong static from only a little wool, and the bare, slick patches of hide are shielded from electricity and safe to touch.
Behaviour
Flaaffy manages its charge carefully. The Pokédex says that when its coat is fully charged the tail lights up and it can launch tufts of wool that shock whatever they hit. Bulbapedia says a sleeping Flaaffy's tail can rarely be seen lighting up after it has charged fully, as Pokémon Sleep describes.
Habitat
The Pokédex lists grassland, and Bulbapedia says Flaaffy typically lives in grassy meadows and fields. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in Paldea's South and West Provinces, and in Legends: Z-A in Bleu District's Wild Zone 16 and Jaune District's Wild Zone 6.
Powers
Static can paralyse attackers on contact, and the hidden Ability Plus raises Special Attack when an ally has Plus or Minus. Flaaffy knows Thunder Shock and Thunder Wave, then learns Electro Ball, Power Gem, Discharge and Cotton Guard, and it can be taught Thunder Punch. With 80 base Special Attack and 70 HP it is a tougher special attacker than Mareep.
Name origin
Flaaffy may blend 'fluffy' with 'baa', the sound of a sheep, and the double a may also nod to AA batteries. The Japanese name is Mokoko (モココ), which may come from yōmō ('wool') and mokomoko ('fluffy').
Design inspiration
Flaaffy looks like a sheep with patchy wool. Bulbapedia also says it shares traits with a kangaroo: it stands on two legs and has a long tail, small arms and long feet with a large central nail. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Flaaffy evolves from Mareep at level 15 and into Ampharos at level 30.
In the games
Flaaffy has no big story role in the games, but players have met it since Gold and Silver. In Scarlet and Violet it can also appear in 3-star Tera Raid Battles.
In the anime
Flaaffy debuted in the film 'Spell of the Unown: Entei' among the make-believe Pokémon that Molly Hale conjured in her dream world, and it beat Brock in battle with Thunder Shock. In 'Whiscash and Ash', Sullivan's Flaaffy, Hannah, tries to weaken a giant Whiscash, but its Electric attacks do nothing because Whiscash is part Ground.
Fun facts
- Flaaffy is offered as an option three times in Pokémon Trainer's Choice quizzes, and each time its name is printed as 'Flaafy'.
- In 'A Chip Off the Old Brock', Mariah's Flaaffy is the love interest of Brock's Marshtomp.

Pokédex entries
It stores electricity in its fluffy fleece. If it stores up too much, it will start to go bald in those patches. (Ultra Moon)
In the places on its body where fleece doesn't grow, its skin is rubbery and doesn't conduct electricity. Those spots are safe to touch. (Ultra Sun)
Flaaffy's wool quality changes so that it can generate a high amount of static electricity with a small amount of wool. The bare and slick parts of its hide are shielded against electricity. (Ruby, Sapphire, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire)
If its coat becomes fully charged with electricity, its tail lights up. It fires hair that zaps on impact. (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Black, White, Y)
Its fluffy fleece easily stores electricity. Its rubbery hide keeps it from being electrocuted. (Silver, FireRed, SoulSilver, X)
Not even downy wool will grow on its rubbery, nonconductive patches of skin that prevent electrical shock. (Black 2, White 2)
