Lore

Biology

Flabébé is 0.1 m tall and 0.1 kg, the lightest Fairy type. It has a white head and body, a pale green lower half, heart-shaped ears and a pink blush on each cheek, and it wears a crown of yellow pollen balls that the Ultra Moon Pokédex says has hidden healing properties. Its flower comes in five colours: red, yellow, orange, blue and white. All Flabébé are female.

Behaviour

Right after birth, Flabébé flies around looking for a flower with the shape and colour it wants. Once it finds one it stays with that flower for life, floating on the wind with an untroubled heart. Bulbapedia says each colour form is particularly fond of its own flower colour, except White Flower Flabébé.

Habitat

The Pokédex says it keeps travelling until it finds a flower it likes. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in South Province, the East Paldean Sea and West Province Area One, and in Legends: Z-A across Lumiose and in Hyperspace Lumiose in the Mega Dimension DLC.

Powers

Its Abilities are Flower Veil, which protects friendly Grass Pokémon from having their stats lowered by other Pokémon, and the hidden Symbiosis, which passes its held item to an ally that has used up theirs. The Pokédex says it draws the power for its moves out of its flower. It starts with Vine Whip and Tackle, learns Fairy Wind at level 6 and Moonblast at level 41. Special Defense 79 is its best base stat.

Name origin

Flabébé may combine 'flower' (furawā in Japanese) and 'bébé', French for 'baby'. The Japanese name is Flabebe (フラベベ), the same word without accents.

Design inspiration

Fairies and nymphs seem to be the model for Flabébé, in particular Antheia, a Greek spirit of flowers, since its flower crown resembles a wreath, and possibly Chloris. These are fan readings.

Evolution notes

Flabébé evolves into Floette at level 19, and the colour of its flower stays with it through the whole line.

In the games

In X and Y, its first games, Flabébé is found among the flowers of Routes 4 and 7. In Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon it lives in Melemele Meadow.

In the anime

Mairin's Yellow Flower Flabébé, nicknamed Bébé, debuted in 'Mega Evolution Special I'. In 'A Festival Reunion!' Goh catches four Flabébé in different colours in Shalour City.
