Goomy official artwork

Goomy is a Dragon-type Pokémon, the Soft Tissue Pokémon, number 704 (#0704) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 6 and comes from the Kalos region. It is 0.3 m tall and weighs 2.8 kg.

Goomy is the Soft Tissue Pokémon, a slimy Dragon type the Pokédex calls the weakest of its kind. Its slippery coat makes punches and kicks slide off, but if the coat dries out, the Pokédex says, Goomy dies.

Lore

Biology

Goomy is 0.3 m tall and weighs 2.8 kg, a purple slug-like blob with beady black eyes and five green spots along its middle. It has two pairs of horns like antennae, the rear pair longer, and they work as sensors. The Pokédex says they cover all five of its senses, and that grabbing them gives it a shock that leaves it unable to move.

Behaviour

Goomy sits still in damp, shady spots, since its body is mostly water. The Pokédex says it hides at the first sign of enemies, and that its germ-laden slime means anyone who touches it needs a thorough hand-wash.

Habitat

The Pokédex says it lives in damp, shady places. In Scarlet and Violet it is found around Paldea and, with The Teal Mask, in Kitakami. In Legends: Z-A it appears in several Lumiose districts, and the Mega Dimension DLC adds Hyperspace Lumiose.

Diet

Bulbapedia says the anime shows it eating leaves.

Powers

Sap Sipper turns Grass moves into an Attack boost, Hydration cures status problems in rain, and the Hidden Ability Gooey slows anything that touches it. Water Gun, Dragon Breath and Dragon Pulse are its attacks. Its best stat is Special Defense 75, so it is a soft early-game wall.

Name origin

Goomy may combine 'goo' with 'gummy' or 'slimy'. The Japanese name is Numera (ヌメラ), possibly from numeru ('to be slippery') and nuranura ('slimy').

Design inspiration

Saya Tsuruta designed Goomy and the Kalosian form of Goodra. It seems modelled on soft-bodied gastropods like slugs and nudibranchs, and its Dragon typing may nod to the 'blue dragon' sea slug.

Evolution notes

Goomy evolves into Sliggoo at level 40, or into Hisuian Sliggoo if it levels up in Hisui, whichever game it came from.

In the games

In Super Mystery Dungeon, Goomy is a timid student at Serene Village School and good friends with Deerling. It debuted in X and Y, on Route 14.

In the anime

Ash caught a Goomy in its debut episode, 'A Slippery Encounter!'.

Fun facts

  • Every base stat of Goodra is exactly double Goomy's, and Sliggoo's sit halfway between, rounded up.
  • The manga 'After the Rain, Goomy.' stars a Goomy, which evolves into Sliggoo and then Goodra.
  • Before Generation IX, the Goomy line were the only Pokémon that could have the Ability Gooey; Wiglett and Wugtrio have it too now.

Pokédex entries

Goomy hides away in the shade of trees, where it's nice and humid. If the slime coating its body dries out, the Pokémon instantly becomes lethargic. (Legends: Arceus)

Their horns are powerful sensors. As soon as Goomy pick up any sign of enemies, they go into hiding. This is how they've survived. (Shield)

Because most of its body is water, it will dry up if the weather becomes too arid. It's considered the weakest dragon Pokémon. (Sword)

Its body is mostly water. If it dries out, it will die, so it's always sitting with perfect stillness in the shade. (Ultra Moon)

It uses its horns to check out its surroundings. They're very sensitive, so if you grab them, it will feel a strong shock and be unable to move. (Ultra Sun)

Its source of protection is its slimy, germ-laden mucous membrane. Anyone who touches it needs some thorough hand-washing. (Moon)
