Iron Valiant official artwork

Iron Valiant is a Fairy/Fighting-type Pokémon, the Paradox Pokémon, number 1006 (#1006) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 9 and comes from the Paldea region. It is 1.4 m tall and weighs 35 kg.

Iron Valiant is a robot knight that looks like Gardevoir and Gallade merged into one, with detachable arm blades and a chest cannon. One Pokédex entry compares it to a mad scientist's invention from a paranormal magazine; another says it may be the object of the same name listed in an expedition journal.

Lore

Biology

Iron Valiant is a mechanical biped, 1.4 m tall and 35 kg, with a dress-like skirt of five white and green petal guards, a green hair-like piece ending in two cones, and a teal head crest like a gladiator's helmet. The magenta blades on its gauntlets can detach and join into one double-edged weapon, and the hollow core in its chest can extend to fire shots like a cannon. Bulbapedia says it powers down when it sleeps, turning the pink glow on its blades, feet and cannon black.

Behaviour

Reports summarised on Bulbapedia call Iron Valiant cruel, willing to cut down anyone who confronts it without hesitating. It can fight with its blades still attached and spin its upper body independently of its legs. An unproven theory in an in-game magazine article claims it is a robot built by a mad scientist trying to make the most powerful Psychic Pokémon.

Habitat

In Pokémon Violet it is found in a cave in Area Zero, the crater at the heart of Paldea. The Pokédex names no other habitat.

Powers

Its Ability Quark Drive raises its highest stat on Electric Terrain or when it holds Booster Energy. It learns Close Combat, Moonblast, Knock Off, Night Slash and Leaf Blade by level-up, plus Spirit Break, a Fairy move that can lower Special Attack, and Destiny Bond. With base Attack 130, Special Attack 120 and Speed 116 it is a fast mixed attacker.

Name origin

Its English name means just what it says, 'iron valiant'. The Japanese name is Tetsunobujin (テツノブジン), from tetsu no bujin (鉄の武人), 'iron warrior'.

Design inspiration

Iron Valiant appears to be a fusion of Gardevoir and Gallade, with traits from both of their Mega forms, dressed as a paladin. Sheathed, its blades resemble Gallade's tonfa-like arms, and joined they form a double-headed glaive.

In the games

Iron Valiant is a Violet-version Paradox Pokémon, found in Area Zero in Pokémon Violet while Scarlet players must trade for it. In Pokémon Masters EX it forms a sync pair with Bede, and it is not available in Legends: Z-A.

Fun facts

  • No other Pokémon shares its Fairy and Fighting typing, which Bulbapedia says comes from the secondary types of Gardevoir and Gallade.
  • Bulbapedia says it is the only Paradox Pokémon built from more than one Pokémon, and the only one with a Generation IV origin, Gallade.
  • Although it can learn Skill Swap by TM, the move normally fails because Quark Drive cannot be swapped away.
  • Bulbapedia says it is the only Fighting type that cannot learn Facade.
