Lore

Biology

Minccino is a small, furry grey chinchilla with fur tufts on its head and neck, big brown eyes and large ears that are red on the inside. It is 0.4 m tall and weighs 5.8 kg. Its long, fluffy tail, with a white tip, works as a broom or a mop.

Behaviour

Minccino is obsessed with cleanliness and will not tolerate even a little mess. The Sword Pokédex says its tail-brushing can help with cleaning, but its fixation on spotlessness can make the job more of a hassle. Minccino greet each other by stroking one another with their tails, and in a pair the one with the fluffier tail is said to be a bit more boastful.

Habitat

The Pokédex says it prefers a tidy habitat. In Scarlet and Violet it lives in the Canyon and Polar Biomes of the Indigo Disk's Terarium.

Powers

Its Abilities are Cute Charm, which gives contact attackers a 30% chance of becoming infatuated, and Technician, which boosts moves of 60 base power or less by half. The hidden Ability Skill Link makes multi-hit moves strike the full five times. It sings, charms and slaps, with Sing, Swift, Tail Slap and Hyper Voice in its repertoire. Its best base stat is Speed at 75.

Name origin

Minccino may blend 'mini', 'mink' or 'mint' with 'chinchilla' or 'chino cloth', and -ino is a diminutive ending. The Japanese name is Chillarmy (チラーミィ), which may combine 'chinchilla' and 'charming'.

Design inspiration

Atsuko Nishida designed Minccino and Cinccino, and Bulbapedia says almost nothing changed from her original designs, which were meant as Unova's answer to Clefairy and Clefable: Pokémon everyone would think cute. Minccino appears to be based on a chinchilla, and its tail may recall a feather duster or broom.

Evolution notes

A Shiny Stone turns Minccino into Cinccino.

In the games

In Scarlet and Violet Minccino can be caught only through the Indigo Disk or transferred in, and in the Indigo Disk it also shows up in 2-star Tera Raids. It debuted in Black and White, where it lives on Routes 5, 9 and 16 and in Cold Storage. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.

In the anime

Minccino debuted in 'In The Shadow of Zekrom!', running through Nuvema Town with a group of children. In 'There's a New Gym Leader in Town!' several Minccino were frightened by the loud intercom at Cheren's Trainers' School.
