Lore
Biology
Pecharunt is 0.3 m tall and weighs just 0.3 kg. Shut, it looks like an upside-down peach with a black, frowning face; open, it reveals a small purple-and-pink body like a peach stone, with a white ribbon-shaped mouth and a tied-back tuft of hair, while the two halves of its shell float at its sides like spiky wings. The shell stores a potent poison, from which it makes toxic chains and rolls poisonous Binding Mochi. Its chains gave Okidogi, Munkidori and Fezandipiti their power.
Behaviour
Pecharunt feeds its mochi to people and Pokémon, firing them into mouths if it has to, and the Pokédex says whoever eats one falls under its control, chained to its will. The poison draws out their deepest desires. It is a coward that gets others to fight for it, weeps and acts like a baby for sympathy, and smells incredibly sweet.
Habitat
Canon gives no natural habitat. In Scarlet and Violet it waits at Loyalty Plaza, and you need a special Mythical Pecha Berry to meet it.
Powers
Its signature move Malignant Chain may badly poison the target, and only Pecharunt learns it. Its Ability Poison Puppeteer confuses any Pokémon it poisons, so a single hit can leave a foe poisoned and confused at once. Every base stat is 88 except Defense, which is 160, making it a very bulky defender that wears foes down.
Name origin
Pecharunt may combine 'peach' or the Pecha Berry (which cures poison) with 'runt' or 'petulant'. The Japanese name Momowarou (モモワロウ) may blend Momotarō, the peach boy of folklore, with momo ('peach') and waroshi ('bad') or warō ('boy').
Design inspiration
Pecharunt, the Loyal Three and Ogerpon appear to retell the folktale of Momotarō with heroes and villains swapped. In the tale a boy born from a peach recruits a dog, monkey and pheasant by feeding them kibi dango, a kind of mochi, and defeats an ogre. Pecharunt looks like Momotarō, was raised by an elderly couple, and feeds its followers mochi, but its band loses. Its Poison type may refer to the chemicals in peach stones.
In the games
Pecharunt is the villain you face at the end of the Mochi Mayhem epilogue in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, after which it can be caught at level 88. Its closed shell appeared, unexplained, in Ogerpon's legend in The Teal Mask before it was revealed. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Debuted in the Horizons episode 'Mochi Mayhem!', where it turned Liko's friends, the Rising Volt Tacklers, into its puppets one after another until Diana broke the spell. It stars in the animated special 'The Untold Story of Pecharunt'.
