Lore
Biology
Regigigas is a huge, white, golem-like Pokémon, 3.7 m tall and 420 kg, with black stripes and yellow bands at its shoulders and wrists. A sloping yellow patch on its chest holds seven black circular eyes, which Bulbapedia says glow red when it is provoked. Six gems circle its head, and thick moss grows on its back and feet. Bulbapedia adds that it can work with boiling magma and with ice as cold as -200 °C (-328 °F).
Behaviour
The Pokédex records a belief that it moulded Regirock, Regice and Registeel from clay, ice and magma. Bulbapedia says that if it is woken it goes on a rampage and fires powerful beams, but that it becomes gentler once befriended.
Habitat
The Pokédex gives no habitat; Bulbapedia says it fell asleep long ago in the Snowpoint Temple. You wake it there in Diamond, Pearl, Platinum and Brilliant Diamond by carrying Regirock, Regice and Registeel, and in Legends: Arceus in the Alabaster Icelands.
Powers
No other Pokémon is known to learn Crush Grip, a move that gets stronger the more HP its target has. It also learns Hammer Arm, Heavy Slam, Body Press, Knock Off and Giga Impact. Its Ability Slow Start halves its Attack and Speed for the first five turns after it enters battle. With base Attack 160 it hits hard once it gets going.
Name origin
Regigigas may combine the Latin regis ('royal') with gigas ('giant'). The Japanese name is Rejigigasu (レジギガス).
Design inspiration
Regigigas looks like the golems of Hebrew legend, especially the Golem of Prague, which was subdued and sealed away for being so powerful. Bulbapedia suggests its seven eyes may be based on Braille, and that the Greek Titans or the Japanese giant Daidarabotchi may also have played a part. These are fan readings, not official statements.
In the games
Regigigas is a sleeping giant sealed in the Snowpoint Temple, first met in Diamond and Pearl, and Palmer can use one at the Battle Tower in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. In Sword and Shield's Crown Tundra it is a Max Raid Battle once you have the five legendary giants. In Scarlet and Violet it arrives by transfer from Pokémon HOME or an event, and Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Regigigas debuted in the film 'Giratina and the Sky Warrior', where it wakes and commands a herd of Mamoswine to hold back a runaway glacier. In 'Pillars of Friendship!' J's attempt to steal it at the Snowpoint Temple wakes it, and it goes on a Hyper Beam rampage.
