Victini official artwork

Victini is a Psychic/Fire-type Pokémon, the Victory Pokémon, number 494 (#0494) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 5 and comes from the Unova region. It is 0.4 m tall and weighs 4 kg.

Victini is the Victory Pokémon, a small rabbit-like Psychic and Fire type. The Black Pokédex says Trainers who have Victini with them are said to win every time, whatever the encounter, and another entry says it makes limitless energy that it shares with anyone who touches it.

Lore

Biology

Victini is 0.4 m tall and weighs 4 kg. It has a round cream head, large blue eyes and big pointed ears that form the letter V, with orange tips on its ears, crest and limbs. Two pointed teeth show in its upper jaw, and two winglike tails let it fly. Bulbapedia says it can also turn invisible.

Behaviour

Bulbapedia calls Victini timid but caring, ready to fight when its friends are threatened. The Pokédex says it creates unlimited energy inside its body and shares it with whoever touches it, leaving them overflowing with power.

Habitat

The Pokédex gives no habitat. In Black and White it waits on Liberty Garden, and Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Scarlet and Violet and in Legends: Z-A.

Powers

Its Ability Victory Star raises the accuracy of its side's moves, and Bulbapedia says no other Pokémon has it. Victini knows V-create from level 1, and is the only known Pokémon to learn V-create by levelling up or Searing Shot at all. It also uses Flame Charge, Zen Headbutt and Flare Blitz. With 100 in every base stat it is a balanced Fire and Psychic attacker.

Name origin

Victini appears to come from 'victory', and possibly 'destiny', 'teeny' or 'tiny'. The Japanese name is ビクティニ (Bikutini), which the games write Victini in Latin letters.

Design inspiration

Mana Ibe designed Victini, and in a 2011 interview Junichi Masuda said it was aimed more at girls than at boys. Bulbapedia says its ears and body may be based on usagi-ringo, apples cut to look like rabbits, with a possible nod to New York's nickname the Big Apple, as Unova is based on that city. Its V theme may link to Generation V, and Nike or Victoria, goddesses of victory, may also have inspired it. These are fan readings.

In the games

Victini is an event-only Pokémon: in Black and White you battle it on Liberty Garden with the Liberty Pass. In Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity it hosts the V-Wavecast broadcasts in Pokémon Paradise with plenty of energy.

In the anime

Victini starred in the twin films 'White: Victini and Zekrom' and 'Black: Victini and Reshiram', where it befriended the Vale people's king 1,000 years earlier and later the target of Damon's plan. It also sends visions to people and loves macarons.

Fun facts

  • Victini sits at number 000 in the Unova Pokédex, which Bulbapedia says makes it the only Pokémon to legitimately hold that number in any Pokédex, so Snivy comes next as number 001.
  • Masuda has said in several interviews that Victini is his favourite Generation V Pokémon, and it was added to the games at his request.
  • The Crown Tundra expansion's data contains an unused Victini encounter, which suggests it was once planned to be available without an event.
  • It is the only Generation V Mythical Pokémon that is caught in a battle rather than received through Mystery Gift.
